Summary of Responsibilities
Responsible for coordinating and counseling patients on ophthalmic surgeries for assigned physicians. Responsibilities include: coordinating surgical procedures with multiple hospitals and surgery centers, meeting patients for pre-operative appointment to obtain diagnostic testing and appropriate paperwork, provide required paperwork and any instructions to facilities. Position requires good understanding of ophthalmic procedures, insurance coverage, considerable attention to detail, ability to communicate effectively with patients, surgeons, coworkers and supervisors and a willingness to help in all areas.
Time will be split between 3 offices in Colorado Springs/Woodland Park:

*Travel to our distant satellite locations will also be required 2-3 times per month*
List of Responsibilities/Duties
- Coordinates and schedules patients, pre-operative appointments, surgeries, and follow up appointments.
- Meets with patients at pre-operative appointment to perform any necessary diagnostic tests for surgery, discuss surgery information, obtain all necessary paperwork, and go over surgeon instructions.
- Obtain and/or provide all necessary paperwork to patient and surgery centers to include: operative consent forms, history and physical, lab reports, surgery center information and consents, insurance authorization, and any other additional information that is needed.
- Ensures we have what is required by patients insurance company for approval of surgical procedure being performed, i.e. authorization, as well, discuss any financial requirements with patient.
- Contact facilities for scheduling and send all necessary paperwork and instructions of any special needs for a surgery.
- The liaison between patient, surgeon, and surgery center.
- Must be able to recognize and respond appropriately to emergent/urgent situations per protocols.
- Maintains patient confidentiality and complies with all practice procedures and protocols.
- Maintains positive attitude consisting of cooperation, self-motivation, courtesy, and professionalism.
- Attends required meetings.
Minimum Education Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
Minimum Background Requirements
- Previous experience or training in this or a similar position is preferred.
Qualification and Demonstrated Skills
- 1 year surgery scheduling or related experience. Must be able to communicate effectively with surgeons, patients, and facilities.
- Strong knowledge of ophthalmic medical practice operations, procedures, and terminology.
- Understands and follows procedures for surgical and procedural consents.
- Displays consistent professionalism.
- Exhibits high level, quality work, through attention to detail and monitoring of work.
- Possession of strong organizational skills.
- Is energetic and empathetic with patients.
- Consistently displays positive rapport with fellow employees.
- Cooperates with supervisory staff and physicians.
