Technical Instructor of Agriculture Science
ABOUT THIS POSITION
Summary:
The Technical Instructor of Agriculture Science teaches post-secondary agriculture in an Associate of Science in Agriculture Science, and Associate of Applied Science in Sustainable Agriculture degree program at CMU Tech. Duties include teaching in the animal sciences and other related agriculture subjects including, but not limited to, general plant sciences, range management, mechanics, agriculture business.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES including the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Professional classroom instruction of at least 15 credit hours per semester teaching subjects related to the Agricultural program. Maintain 5 hours of office time per week.
- Applicant will be responsible for curriculum development and course scheduling
- Assist in recruitment, advisement, placement, and follow-up of students
- Work independently, and in collaboration with colleagues, to develop innovative curriculum which meets the needs of our diverse population of students.
- Demonstrated familiarity with a minimum of four related general agriculture subjects (sustainable agriculture, including horticultural and livestock operations, wholesale and retail management, nursery operations, and environmental and agricultural education)
- Demonstrated knowledge in livestock management, reproduction, nutrition, live animal and product evaluation, marketing, and production systems
- Must be committed to highest quality teaching, be responsive to changing industry expectations, and support strong industry/community relations
- Determine program needs, maintain equipment, and maintain program budget
- Coordinate industry engagement with local employers for advisory committee, internship, and other industry specific needs
- Serve as representative of the department by participating in committees, task forces, and events at the campus, college, and/or state levels
Minimum Qualifications Required:
- Associate degree from an accredited institution in a related field and 4,000 documented occupational hours in the agriculture industry within the last seven years; or a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a related field and 2,000 documented educational hours in the agriculture industry within the last seven years.
- Master's degree from an accredited institution in agriculture, animal science, or a related field
- Demonstrated teaching experience at either the secondary or post-secondary level, in a related field
- Industry related certificates or licenses
- Background in livestock and/or product evaluation
LANGUAGE
SKILLS
Strong written and verbal
communications skills. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common
scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal
documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from
faculty, staff, administration, regulatory agencies, and/or community
members. Ability to effectively present information.
MATHEMATICAL
SKILLS
Ability to work with and apply basic mathematical concepts of arithmetic and
algebra, along with the ability to apply concepts such as fractions,
percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical problems.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect information, and draw valid
conclusions. Ability to comprehend and interpret rules, regulations,
policies, laws, and guidelines.
