Job Description
To prepare cadets for today’s colleges and tomorrow’s careers by engaging cadets in a rigorous and high-tech curriculum in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) while building strong moral character through an environment of military leadership development.
A licensed professional who designs and delivers learning experiences for students in a grade level and/or content area; organizes and facilitates the learning process utilizing a variety of evidence-based instructional practices and applicable technology; participates in a community of learning to develop and refine knowledge and skills for the academic, civic, social and emotional success of students; consistently evaluates student progress, makes appropriate adjustments, and communicates student progress; regularly collaborates, reflects, and grows to improve learning opportunities for students
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs work associated with standards-based student art instruction; i.e., instruction of the elements and principles of design through drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, and ceramics. Prepares lesson plans, develops input for and presents daily instructional/learning activities based upon Core Knowledge sequence and Colorado Academic Visual Art Education Standards under the direction of appropriate administrators. Maintains a positive learning environment utilizing appropriate positive behavior support strategies keeps learners on task and engaged.
- Demonstrates knowledge and skill in the areas of Art Education, 21st century technology, task analysis, assessment, progress monitoring, behavior management, organization and planning, curriculum development, parent relations and teamwork.
- Utilizes technology to model, teach, and assist learners relative to instruction and activities.
- Demonstrates knowledge / skill in the areas of project and technology-based learning.
- Organizes the instructional environment for collaborative group work.
- Works in co-teaching teams with others.
- Provides resources and support for learners who are interested in pursuing art as a vocation.
- Provides art education on an outreach basis, as part of statewide and regional resources services.
- Works as part of the education / assessment team responsible for identifying, developing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating individual objectives for assigned learners.
- Understands and supports students' social-emotional development.
- Engages students as individuals, including those with diverse needs and interests, across a range of ability levels by adapting their teaching for the benefit of all students
- Utilizes appropriate communication skills with a commitment to literacy development in each learner, within the area of Visual Art Education.
- Coordinates effectively with other service staff in providing instruction, supporting school reform efforts, strategic planning, and contributing positively to extracurricular activities.
- Provides parent consultation; participates in selected parent-focused activities, etc.
- Performs other appropriate duties; i.e., participating in community through student art exhibits, visitations and study trips to art museums, local artists, etc., and other duties as assigned.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience with graphic design, drafting or other technology supported art/technology based arts.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's Degree or higher in Art Education, 7-12
- Experience teaching / working with children in an educational environment
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
- Knowledge and skill in best practices for providing developmentally appropriate instruction to children
- Knowledge of and ability to assess and apply technology to perform the requirements of the position; ability to effectively utilize a variety of computer software applications, which may include but is not limited to e-mail, Internet, word processing, electronic calendar, presentation development, spreadsheet, database, etc.; willingness to stay current and develop skills as needed with or without direct support from Dean of Instruction
- Knowledge of and ability to effectively adapt and apply teaching skills, classroom management and lesson preparation to a technology rich environment, which may include but is not limited to on-site classroom, telepresence, and multiple distance education technologies and delivery modes; ability to effectively implement technology necessary to model, teach, and assist students relative to classroom instruction and activities
- Able to use graphic design and other software to train some students
- Ability to establish high standards for what learners must know and be able to do
- Ability to communicate effectively with learners and staff, who are Deaf / hard-of-hearing
- Ability to respond effectively and positively to feedback
- Ability to work cooperatively with others and participate effectively in a team setting
- Strong, positive interpersonal skills
- Reports consistently for work as scheduled
- Performs other duties as assigned
