General Description: A CMA SpEd Paraprofessional will provide technical and advanced assistance to their assigned specialist or professional in delivering the education plan and meeting the goals/objectives of the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) of assigned student(s). This position is not effective until the 2025-2026 school year.
Qualifications:
· Knowledge of public/charter school curriculum
· Knowledge of individual needs and concerns based on IEP
· Knowledge of school behavior standards and requirements
· Ability to follow direction and carry out Special Education Teacher’s instructions
· Ability to pass a criminal history background check
· Ability to implement/follow classroom/school rules, procedures, discipline set forth by school
· Ability to supervise students in the classroom, during instruction, and during transitions
Education, Experience:
· High School Diploma, or equivalent
· Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver’s license or other forms of identification
· Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate valid First Aid Certificate
· Past experience as a paraprofessional is helpful, but not required
Core Responsibilities:
· Assist Special Education Teacher in delivering the educational plan, and meeting the goals and objectives of the IEP of assigned student(s)
· Assist classroom teacher in implementing lesson plan; grading assignments, and record keeping
· Communicate needs and issues regarding academics to Special Education Teacher
· Maintain appropriate files and records, attach all supporting documentation; ensure confidentiality of all records and files
· Assist students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments to present or reinforce learning concepts. Use alternative methods as directed by Special Education Teacher.
· Operate and care for equipment use in the classroom for instructional purposes, operates and cares for various audio visual equipment, and operates various office machine to prepare classroom materials
· Assist with supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, lunch and field trips
· Provide close supervision of students with behavior problems in the classroom; support the teacher’s management system
· Communicate needs and issues regarding behavior to the Head of School
Physical requirements to perform this job:
This position may require some moderate lifting (up to 25 pounds unassisted), repeated bending, moving throughout the building, and sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time.
Work Environment & Conditions:
Normal business hours are Monday-Friday from 7:30am to 4:00pm, Monday through Friday. Schedule adjusted for inclement weather. Additional hours may be required for special events. Unpaid 30-minute lunch.
Dress code: Clean, business casual attire.
