Primary Responsibility
Under the general direction of the Campus Vice President or Campus Dean, the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs is a job that is held on a non-residential campus and is responsible for planning, developing, directing, and appropriately adapting the functions of campus student services, monitoring and evaluating performance to ensure optimum service levels for students, remaining responsive to changing needs and demographics. Oversees department staffing and scheduling; this includes coordinating campus advising, career services, disability services, tutoring services, and programs for special populations. Works directly with students, providing academic and career guidance and advocacy. Prepares and administers campus student services budgets.
Communicates regularly with campus leaders in other departments. Collaborates college-wide with others throughout the College and community to promote unity and further the vision and mission of Colorado Mountain College. Collaborates with student services staff and leadership, contributing to the development of long and short-term campus and college-wide goals and ensuring their implementation at the campus level. The Assistant Dean for Student Affairs is responsible for ensuring that the campus provides an inclusive, innovative collection of welcoming, relevant and efficient student services that offer positive interactions and encouragement for students as they progress on their academic journey.
Pre-requisites for Position (Qualifications Standards)
Education and experience sufficient for the rigors of the position. Examples may include a Master’s Degree and four years of related experience, Bachelor’s and six years of related experience or equivalent education and experience that will provide the necessary knowledge, skill and abilities to perform the functions of the position.
Experience supervising staff in an educational setting essential.
Special Skills or abilities related to position: Knowledge of current principles, practices, and trends in higher education student affairs programming, state and federal laws, regulations and codes governing same. Develop and implement creative student services initiatives and programming. Adapt to changing demographics. Ability to facilitate cooperation through discussion and consensus-building, analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, problem solve and communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Hiring range = $81,767.48 - $90,852.77 annual salary depending upon a combination of education and experience. Benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Pet insurance, retirement contribution, tuition reimbursement, annual & sick time, mental health resources, healthy lifestyle benefits, affordable transitional housing may be available to the successful candidate based on eligibility and availability, relocation if applicable. CMC utilizes a wage progression compensation model that accounts for a candidate’s skill and experience. Although a salary range is listed, salary will be set commensurate with the successful candidate’s qualifications and in compliance with the Equal Pay for Equal Work Act.

Minimum Qualifications:
Essential Duties
- Provides campus leadership and direction in supporting student success including, but not limited to the following: Cultivating a positive campus environment for all stakeholders; overseeing and ensuring quality in a broad range of student-focused work, including recruitment, enrollment, orientation, advising, and retention; ensuring behavioral health and basic needs resources and referrals are available and communicated to the campus; and coordinating commencement ceremonies. Analyzes the efficacy and impact of all programs and events and adapts accordingly. Serves on campus leadership team to provide holistic insight and guidance on campus operations, initiatives, and outreach.
- Serves on campus safety and threat assessment teams and stays current on best practices. Processes campus CARE and Incident Reports. Participates in adjudication of Code of Conduct and Title IX proceedings. Stays abreast of adversities that students (as individual and groups) encounter and responds, updating and improving relevant services and programming. Communicates with students and staff related to academic suspension and probation.
- Provides individual student advising and advocacy by offering high quality guidance, care, mentoring, and knowledge and tools for college success. Interprets assessments, generates comprehensive academic plans based upon understanding of program requirements and individual students’ aptitudes and propensities. Explores student aspirations and career possibilities and pathways. Monitors student progress and maintains appropriate records- to assist individual students, as well to provide analytics to guide retention and completion initiatives.
- Oversees department staffing and scheduling, ensures the highest quality campus enrollment, advising, access, and career services. Guides initial training and continued professional development for student services to keep staff skill sets current. Develops and monitors department budget and expenditures.
- Aids Assistant Deans of Instruction with strategic course scheduling and faculty members with co-curricular supports.
- Actively participates on the collegewide Student Affairs Leadership Team to collaborate on best practices and consistent systems. Contributes to the development of long and short-term goals and ensures implementation at the campus level. Builds and maintains relationships with collegewide colleagues.
- Serves as student liaison/advisor for student organizations, campus officials, and community agencies. Ensures campus compliance with governmental and judicial regulations. Builds and maintains relationships with transfer institutions. Participates in certain community outreach events.
- Actively strives to ensure that all department and campus activities align with the college’s commitments of equity, care, innovation, and integrity.
- Other duties as assigned.

This position receives general direction from a senior level administrator.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position supervises staff.
Special Conditions of Employment
Successful completion of a background check will be required including motor vehicles records report. Incumbents in this position will adhere to all safety and compliance policies of Colorado Mountain College while performing all duties assigned.
Serve in the professional staff on-call rotation throughout the year to respond to emergencies and policy violations in the residence hall. Professional staff on-call must be available to take calls and come to campus quickly for the entirety of their on-call duration.
Working Conditions
This position requires constant sitting, occasional walking, standing and driving; occasional handling objects, pushing/pulling; frequent reaching with hands/arms, and use of finger movements; occasional lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling objects up to 50 lbs. Constant written and oral communication and the ability to reason and analyze and perform calculations occasionally. Work is performed using a computer and standard office equipment daily and driving a vehicle occasionally.
