The Director of Operations is a critical member of the leadership team and responsible for the management of all internal functions and duties necessary to ensure efficient operation of the organization and its programs. This position oversees all accounting and resource management functions of the organization including human resources, general accounting, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll and benefit administration, budgeting, forecasting, technology, and office management. The Director of Operations is also responsible for organizing, coordinating and maintaining organizational assets, policies and procedures, and ensures efficient and organized administration of all documents, licenses, finances, and other functions requisite to the operations of a nonprofit organization. This role influences strategy, policy, compliance, and more across all programs and departments.

About Us :

Colorado Poverty Law Project (CPLP) is a Denver-based nonprofit with a mission to provide Colorado’s low-income population with access to justice. We specialize in matching our clients with volunteer lawyers in evictions, housing-related and other legal cases. CPLP helps educate lawyers, neighborhood groups, and support organizations on legal issues common to low-income Coloradans, and supports groups advocating for protections of at-risk Coloradans.

Position Summary

The Director of Operations is responsible for the management of all internal functions necessary to ensure efficient operation of the organization and its programs. This position oversees all accounting and resource management functions including human resources, general accounting, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll and benefit administration, budgeting, forecasting, technology, and office management.

General Responsibilities

  • Sets annual goals for Operations and designs annual Operations calendar
  • Identifies systems or processes that require improvement
  • Serves as a thought partner to CPLP’s leadership team
  • Coordinates all in-office items including mail, liaising with building management, coordinating equipment repairs, and managing inventory
  • Human Resources & Policy / Compliance

  • Coordinates employee onboarding and offboarding
  • Acts as the primary liaison with CPLP’s payroll provider Gusto
  • Takes lead on employee engagement and appreciation
  • Ensures competitive and comprehensive benefits and compensation
  • Maintains personnel files and ensures accurate employee communication
  • Information Technology

  • Coordinates CPLP’s IT environment including hardware and software
  • Develops and implements CPLP’s backup and cybersecurity strategy
  • Ensures secure management of physical and electronic data
  • Finance and Accounting

  • Primary point of contact for Bookkeeper and CPA to ensure accurate financial records
  • Supports the Executive Director in drafting and updating the annual budget
  • Oversees day-to-day accounts receivable and payable
  • Coordinates annual audit and 990 process
  • Minimum Qualifications

    The ideal applicant will :

  • Have at least 5 years of experience in nonprofit administration or operations
  • Be familiar with Quickbooks and nonprofit finance
  • Be familiar with Gusto or similar programs
  • Have a relevant background in finance and / or HR
  • Possess a relevant degree (strong plus)

  • This is a hybrid position, with job functions performed partially at home and partially at CPLP’s facility in Denver, CO. CPLP is an equal opportunity employer. Salary will be commensurate with experience, within a range of $85,000 to $100,000 annually, with competitive health, dental, and vision benefits.
