JOB SUMMARY
Under the direct supervision of the Media Director, the Reporter collects and analyzes information about newsworthy events on the CRIT Reservation for the purpose of producing content and stories for publication or broadcast for CRIT. The Reporter is responsible for photographing events and filming footage that will assist in the production of digital content and news stories. The Reporter must understand all elements needed to produce a finished quality news article. The Reporter is responsible for organized record keeping of all audio, video and still image files to be stored in an archive for tribal government use, preservation and planning. The Reporter is also responsible for Facebook Live broadcasts and must have working knowledge of various social media applications.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES
- Evaluate news leads and news tips to develop story ideas
- Receive and respond to assignments
- Gathers and verifies factual information regarding story through interviews, observation, and research
- Organizes material, determines perspective, slant or emphasis, and writes story according to prescribed editorial style and format standards
- Takes professional quality photographs using DSLR or mirrorless camera to illustrate stories and news articles
- Shoots professional quality video to illustrate stories and news articles
- Edit, or assist in editing, digital images, videos and/or audio for stories or news articles
- Utilizes Adobe software to create a polished finished story for publication
- Delivers live reports from site of event, as appropriate and operates Facebook Live broadcasts
- May produce and anchor news and public affairs programs
- Compiles and incorporates supplemental material and background information from a range of sources, such as files, reference libraries, and/or individual knowledgeable sources, as appropriate
- Assists in the planning of Media events as needed
- Sets up photo/video/audio equipment in studio and on-site with minimal to no supervision required
- Performs job-related duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- General knowledge of media equipment set-up and usage

- Ability to break down complex concepts
- Knowledge of the English language, rules of syntax, punctuation and grammar
- Ability to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials up to 60 lbs.
- Ability to stand at least eight (8) hours
- Physically ability to perform duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Graduate or GED
- Valid Driver's license
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelors' degree in communications or journalism
- Writing examples/Portfolio
- Proficiency in the use of word-processing software, including content management systems
- In-depth knowledge of style guides
- Proficient in the use of digital camera
- Proficient in Adobe editing software
- Proficient with professional DSLR camera and/or other digital cameras
- Proficient in Quark or CS2 Adobe or newer versions of these programs
