POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Minor League Hitting Coach is responsible for developing and improving the hitting skills of players within our minor league affiliate. This role involves providing one-on-one coaching, conducting group drills, analyzing player performance, and helping players enhance their swing mechanics, approach at the plate, and overall offensive game strategy. The position requires strong communication skills, a deep knowledge of baseball hitting fundamentals, and a commitment to fostering player development in a supportive, team-oriented environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage daily offensive development at the minor league affiliate level.
- Execute organizational responsibilities and individual player development plans in-season at the assigned affiliate.
- Aid in executing minor league instructional league, spring training, etc.
- Effectively communicate with front office staff, affiliate staff, and hitting coordinator.
- Work with the front office and coaches to establish organizational standards and teaching methods.
- Full intent with individual player plans as well as team offensive goals.
- Implement organization’s hit philosophy and uphold standards.
- Conduct individual and group hitting drills to improve player mechanics, timing, and approach.
- Analyze player performance using video breakdowns and statistical data to identify areas for improvement.
- Provide real-time feedback during games and practice sessions, adapting coaching strategies.
- Work closely with other coaching staff to develop personalized training plans for each player.
- Track and monitor player progress throughout the season, adjusting training plans accordingly.
- Assist in pre-game preparations, including batting practice and hitting-related exercises.
- Help foster a positive team culture by providing encouragement, motivation, and constructive feedback.
PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Standing/Walking: Must be able to stand or walk for extended periods during practice, drills, and games.
- Lifting/Carrying: Must be able to lift and carry equipment such as bats, balls, and training tools (up to 25-30 pounds).
- Physical Agility: Must demonstrate physical agility and flexibility when demonstrating hitting techniques or engaging in on-field drills.
- Bending/Stooping: Frequent bending and stooping required for tasks such as retrieving balls, setting up drills, or assisting players with their form.
- Hand-Eye Coordination: Must have excellent hand-eye coordination to demonstrate swing mechanics and provide timely feedback during drills.
- Endurance: Ability to maintain focus and coaching activity over the course of long practice sessions and games, which may last several hours.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS (JOB SPECIFICATIONS):
- Previous playing experience at a competitive level (preferably professional or collegiate).
- Strong understanding of baseball mechanics and the mental approach to hitting.
- Ability to work collaboratively with other coaches, managers, and front-office staff.
- A passion for player development and mentorship.
WORK SCHEDULE:
- Ability to travel with the team as required by the game schedule, including overnight stays.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required by game schedules and training sessions.
- Non-game day schedule is during the work week, and then hours and days can be flexible.
- Ability to be present and active during game days, including standing and moving around the stadium for long periods.
- Willingness to be hands-on and approachable in a dynamic, fast-paced event environment.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
- Annual Salary: $68,000 to $75,000.00. This is a regular status, full-time position.
- As a candidate for this position, your salary and related elements of compensation will be contingent upon your work experience, education, job-related skills, and any other factors the Colorado Rockies consider relevant to the hiring decision for this position.
