Evening ESL Teacher
Colorado School of English was founded in 1992 and is an ACCET-accredited and SEVP-certified institute that meets US Department of Education standards. We welcome students from all over the world and are rapidly growing. In order to meet the English language learning needs of our student populations, CSE is hiring motivated and passionate English as a Second Language (ESL) Teachers for our faculty.
We require our Evening ESL teachers to have:
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field: English Literature, TESOL, Rhetoric,
- Two years of experience teaching ESL to adults
- Live in the Denver area (must be able to commute to Denver)
And at least one of the following:
- TEFL/TESL/CELTA or equivalent certificate with at least 100 in-class hours including practicum
- Six years total of ESL teaching experience minimum
Preferred:
Master's degree in English Literature, TESOL, Linguistics, Creative Writing; DELTA
- Experience living and teaching in another country
- 5 - 10 years of experience teaching adults academic English in an IEP
- Experience in an open enrollment program
- Experience teaching using the communicative approach
- Curriculum/Course Development & Test Design
- Experience living and working abroad in an ESL context
- Second language learning experience
The evening ESL teacher hired will be provided with an orientation and training in order to understand how to be successful at CSE but will need to have a sound understanding of lesson planning, assessment, grading, record keeping, etc. CSE is focused on creating a student-centered learning environment that takes into account the needs, interests, and abilities of the students in our classes.
Essential skills for the evening ESL teacher include; the ability to use technology, SMS/LMS, Microsoft Suite, Google Docs, etc. Training will be provided.
Evening ESL Teacher Responsibilities:
- The evening ESL teacher hired must be able to teach across various levels from A1 - C2 based on the CEFR/Global Scale of English. The course offered are Reading & Writing, Grammar, Speaking & Listening, Test Preparation, and Electives.
- Teach 18 hours per week from Monday thru Thursday, (4:30pm - 9:05pm). Additional hours may be available is desired. Four hours of paid prep time per week.
- Assess students’ progress, provide corrective feedback (formal/informal), and align daily and weekly lesson plans to standardized Learning Objectives based on the GSE/CEFR.
- Create weekly assessments to evidence learning outcomes. Identify students who are ready to advance to the next level, as well as those needing additional support.
- Grade tests, quizzes, oral presentations, essays and other typical assessments used in an ESL learning context.
- Create, edit, and grade Term Assessments every (4) weeks and Final Exams every (12) weeks
Non-teaching Responsibilities:
- Upload attendance and all grades into an internal Student Management System (SMS/LMS).
- Attend weekly meetings, in-service training, professional development conferences (COTESL)
- Provide regular formal and informal constructive feedback to guide your students' language learning
- Uphold school policies (e.g. tardy, absences, homework, English only policy, classroom behavior, etc.)
