What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Scheduler position at Colorado Springs Orthopaedic Group?
GENERAL SUMMARY:
With a customer service orientation, provides support with the daily activities of a medical office including filing, telephone coverage, appointment scheduling, registration, and patient referrals by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Responsibilities include but are not limited to, the following:
- Answers telephone via multi-line telephone system, and either responds to inquiry or directs caller to appropriate personnel.
- Adheres to HIPAA guidelines and regulations
- Schedules appointments and enters appointment date and time into computerized scheduler.
- Moves patients on schedule, as directed by physician, physician’s extender, or manager.
- Receives approval for transfer of care, second opinions, and Medicaid referrals.
- Documents incoming referrals in the electronic medical record system.
- Gathers all information for new patient paperwork and mails it to patient for completion, where applicable
- Works closely with the medical assistants to determine appropriate scheduling
- Triages phone calls to determine if scheduling need is emergent
- Transfers calls to appropriate personnel if necessary
- Responsible for pre-registration by obtaining demographics and necessary information
- Performs other clerical duties as needed, such as filing, photocopying, and scanning
- Completes all Meaningful Use requirements.
- Performs all other tasks and projects as assigned
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
