Job Summary:
The Director of Nursing is responsible for planning, organizing, developing, and directing the overall operation of the Nursing Department. This includes ensuring that all operations are compliant with federal, state, and local regulations and that the highest quality of care is consistently maintained. The Director of Nursing will also provide leadership to nursing staff and work collaboratively with other departments to promote quality care and patient safety.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, develop, organize, and evaluate nursing department activities, programs, and services to ensure compliance with regulations and to meet the needs of patients.
- Oversee MDS schedules, care plans, and assessments according to state and federal regulations.
- Collaborate with physicians, consultants, and other healthcare providers to improve the quality of care and ensure continuity of services.
- Develop and implement quality assurance programs and assist in addressing deficiencies identified during inspections.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop nursing staff through leadership training and in-service education programs.
- Ensure adequate staffing levels and schedule duty hours to meet patient care needs.
- Work in collaboration with central supply to maintain a well-stocked inventory of medical supplies, medications, and equipment.
- Ensure the nursing department meets budget and labor goals.
- Monitor patient care and documentation to ensure compliance with care plans and nursing standards.
- Respond to and address complaints, grievances, and incidents to ensure the safety and well-being of residents and staff.
- Participate in management team meetings and serve on various facility committees as needed.
- Ensure nursing staff follow infection control practices.
Qualifications:
- Must be a licensed Registered Nurse (RN) in good standing with the Oregon State Board of Nursing.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in long-term care, including roles such as Charge Nurse or Resident Care Manager (or comparable positions).
- Proven ability to lead, manage, and develop nursing staff in a professional and supportive manner.
- Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations governing nursing homes and healthcare facilities.
- Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and external agencies to improve patient care.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to make informed decisions under pressure.
- Infection Control Certification preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Visual and auditory acuity within normal limits.
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 60 lbs with mechanical assistance as needed.
- Ability to remain calm and effectively manage stress in a healthcare environment.
