POSITION SUMMARY
This position is responsible for assisting mechanical specialist in maintaining a variety of pumps and motors associated with the water and wastewater system. The purpose of this work is to assist mechanical specialists in the maintenance of all equipment for the Water Utility, and to maintain water treatment systems. Successful performance in this position contributes to the safe and efficient operation of the water and wastewater systems.
Guidelines for the position include detailed and specific instructions which require little interpretation by the incumbent.
Contacts are typically with departmental personnel.
The work requires intermittently sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching, stooping, frequently lifting light (less than 25 pounds) objects and occasionally lifting heavy (more than 25 pounds) objects. The work involves the use of hand and power tools that require high levels of dexterity. The ability to distinguish between shades of color is also necessary. Work is performed in a shop and outdoors. Incumbent is exposed to noise, dirt, grease, irritating chemicals, machinery and its moving part, and hot, cold or inclement weather. Work requires the use of protective devices.
Completion of high school or equivalent is required. Possession of a valid driver’s license.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Assist’s mechanical specialists in performance of duties.
- Assists in monitoring and repairing Water & Wastewater Treatment Facilities
- Assists in troubleshooting electrical control systems
- Assists in monitoring and repairing remote Booster and Lift Pumping Stations on a scheduled basis to determine if they are in proper working condition.
- Cleans equipment and assigned areas.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of basic mechanical and electrical repair procedures.
- Skill in using a variety of hand tools.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Ability to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations. Preferred experience in repair and maintenance of equipment in an industrial or manufacturing environment. High School diploma or GED, and a valid driver’s license. A combination of education and/or work experience may be substituted for minimum requirements.
