Job Title: Corrections Technician
The Columbia County Sheriff's Office is seeking an entry-level Corrections Technician to join their team dedicated to solving community problems, reducing crime, and preserving laws and constitutional rights.
This position works in the secure portion of the County Jail, controlling access and movement through voice and automated locking devices. The Corrections Technicians are not sworn law enforcement officers and do not have direct physical contact with inmates.
The ideal candidate will have equivalent education to a high school diploma with additional law enforcement training, or a satisfactory combination of experience and training. Previous experience in a correctional setting is preferred.
Duties include performing support duties to maintain security and welfare of adults in custody, monitoring and operating the automated security system, and ensuring control of jail security.
The Corrections Technician will work on a rotating shift basis (day/swing/night), including weekends and holidays, and communicate with Corrections Deputies via radio. After a training period, the technician will work independently in the Control Room.
The successful candidate will possess a valid driver's license, be insurable under the county's liability policy, and obtain a first aid/CPR card within three months of hire.
Knowledge of record keeping procedures, general office practices, and business software is required. The ideal candidate will also have skills in Microsoft Office products, as well as the ability to multitask, express ideas effectively, and adapt to change.
This is a full-time position, 40 hours (plus regular required overtime), with a salary range of $3,828 - $5,610 per month.
