What are the responsibilities and job description for the QA Assistant Manager position at Columbia Fruit?
Summary of Position:
The QA Assistant Manager ensures food safety program and guidelines are thoroughly followed in the facility. The QA Assistant Manager oversees the quality of the products produced in the facility. The QA Assistant Manager ensures that specifications are defined and communicated while performing inspection of processes, conducting employee training, compliance with GMP guidelines, compliance with applicable food laws and regulations, and maintaining HACCP plans to regulatory compliance. The QA Assistant Manager will participate in resolving customer complaints and is an integral part of the plant’s leadership team.
Job Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement quality assurance policies and procedures in collaboration with the QA Manager.
- Conduct regular quality inspections and audits to identify any issues or areas for improvement as it relates to food safety, quality assurance, and/or sanitation practices.
- Identify trends, recurring issues, and potential areas for improvement by developing corrective actions and/or preventative actions (CAPA).
- Train and mentor QC team members to ensure compliance with quality and safety standards.
- Develop and maintain documentation related to quality assurance processes and sanitation guidelines.
- Develop strategies and action plans to address identified quality concerns and enhance overall product quality.
- Participate in cross-functional meetings to provide insights and recommendations for process improvement.
- Coordinate with other departments to address any quality-related issues or concerns.
- Maintains a professional working relationship with plant management, employees, customers, and vendors.
- Perform other duties as assigned and tasks, as necessary.
Job Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in food science or related field, preferred but not required.
- Bilingual (Spanish) required.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in quality assurance or food processing is preferred.
- Proficient computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Good interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Strong analytical skills, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
- Ability to work flexible hours based on high-season schedule and/or production needs.
- Able to work in a cold environment and stand for prolonged periods on concrete.
- Ability and willingness to travel for business needs, as necessary.
- Ability to interact and collaborate with all support teams daily.
- Ability to evaluate employees fairly and objectively.
- Must have a valid driver's license.
- Must be able to submit and pass a criminal background check.
Other Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Qualifications:
- Drive continuous improvement of production volume, operational efficiencies, safety, etc.
- HACCP and PCQI Certified preferred.

Pay: $85,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
