What are the responsibilities and job description for the Experienced Medical Assistant position at Columbia Gorge Family Medicine?
We are a friendly team providing primary care services for over 30 years to our community. We offer excellent benefits, generous time off, competitive pay including an additional $150/month (about 85 cents/hour) compensation for bilingual Spanish-English skills and time-and-a-half pay for acute care shifts, and a welcoming and friendly work environment. Principal Duties:
- Prepares patients for examinations. Verifies patient information and history as needed.
- Measures and records vital signs.
- Assists provider during patient exams/minor surgical procedures; administers and provides medication and immunizations as ordered.
- Stocks and prepares exam rooms. Selects and lays out medical supplies.
- Cleans, sterilizes, and calibrates medical equipment as required.
- Performs tests and studies such as electrocardiograms, audiograms, pulmonary function tests, etc.
- Collects specimens as required and maintains sample integrity throughout the collection and transfer process.
- Records and reports patient information in EMR.
- Handles medication refill requests in accordance with clinic procedure.
- Dispenses appropriate educational materials to support health maintenance and/or to promote understanding of tests/procedures.
- Schedules tests and appointments preparing all forms and requisitions as needed by medical care provider. Follows through to ensure lab and x-ray reports are received. Receives and relays those reports to patients after being instructed to do so by reviewing provider.
- Returns patient phone calls by the end of each business day—or sooner if acuity is high.
- Performs injections
- Sterilizes instruments
- Performs EKGs
- Administers medications
- Other duties and projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 2 years experience as a certified MA
- 2 years experience using Epic electronic health record
- Knowledge of basic medical assisting skills.
- Knowledge of relevant medical terminology.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of pertinent regulatory requirements including disposal of medical waste and exposure to bloodborne pathogens.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize.
- Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions of medical care providers.
- Ability to work effectively with patients, employees, and allied health professionals.
- Ability to use time effectively seeking out work from colleagues as time allows.
- Capacity to respond with patience and understanding during stressful and or emergency situations related to patient health care.
- CPR certification
