The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

Reporting to the co-Directors of the Community Engagement Core Resource (CECR), and Associate Director for Finance and Administration and Associate Director for Program Strategy and Communication, and working in tandem with the Vagelos College for Physician and Surgeons Office of Community Health, the candidate will work independently and pro-actively towards the implementation, evaluation, enhancement, and dissemination of initiatives and programming to foster community engaged research and bi-directional community involvement in health research. The position entails interfacing with a range of individuals from different professions and backgrounds to accomplish CECR goals. The Program Manager will be directly responsible for management across all CECR activities, including Columbia Community Partnership for Health, its off-campus activity space. The position is based in-person in Washington Heights, NYC. Occasional early morning, evening, and weekend hours required. This is a grant-funded position.

The Irving Institute is home to Columbia University’s Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA), which was launched by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in 2006 and has expanded to over 50 academic medical centers across the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee operations and administration of programs, including our off-campus space Columbia Community Partnership for Health at 390 Fort Washington, while ensuring organizational guidelines and policies are followed.
  • Deploy community outreach, education, and engagement activities to increase awareness of and enrollment to CUIMC-sponsored research.
  • Collect, prepare, analyze, and report data, and collaborate with the Evaluation and Continuous Improvement (ECI) team on program evaluations.
  • Manage communications including website content, creation of promotional materials, and help with presentation, report, grant, and manuscript preparation for various audiences.
  • Facilitate bi-directional communication between community stakeholders, the Irving Institute, and Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC) initiatives.
  • Supervises staff and interns/volunteers.
  • Serve as a member of the larger Irving Institute Program Manager’s team including working with other managers and the Administrative Core of the Irving Institute to fully execute Irving Institute goals and mission.
  • Perform general administrative functions, and related duties and responsibilities as assigned/requested

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus 3 years of related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates fluent in Spanish with experience in community/civic engagement, academic-community research partnerships, participatory research, health education, health literacy, and/or health communications with minoritized communities will be viewed as extremely competitive. Master’s degree in related field preferred.

Other Requirements

Demonstrated achievement in project management, organizational and follow-through skills, superior interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, close attention to detail, high degree of proficiency with computer software (MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint, project management tools), ability to quickly learn new programs, strong work ethic, ability to work independently, experience interacting with all levels of faculty, management and staff, ability to manage multiple programs and initiatives with overlapping deadlines, and prior experience collaborating on grant and manuscript preparation and submission.
