The Department of Epidemiology at the Mailman School of Public Health invites applications from PhD or other doctoral-level degree holders for a Postdoctoral Research Scientist focused on gender and race inequities in breast/chest cancer across the gender spectrum within the Epidemiology and Mixed Methods Informing Cancer Screening (EMICS) team.

Under the direction of the Principal Investigator (Assistant Professor and SPECTRUM PI, Lauren Houghton, PhD), the postdoctoral research scientist will be engaged with several research projects, ranging from informing current breast/ chest cancer screening for transgender and nonbinary people through mixed methods to understanding the association of the steroid metabolome with cancer risk in Black women. The fellow is expected to increase his/her/their methodological and substantive knowledge of one or more of the aforementioned areas, build skills for developing and implementing research studies, and have opportunities to lead and/or co-author manuscript publications. S/he/ they will perform population health research activities, including performing statistical analyses, preparing manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals, delivering presentations at scientific meetings, and providing other research and methodological support for existing and ongoing studies. The candidate will also support the broader portfolio led by the EMICS team.

Although the candidate will dedicate most of their effort to the EMICS portfolio of projects, they will be encouraged to pursue independent research interests within the field of chronic disease epidemiology.

Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.

Qualifications

· Candidates should hold a doctoral-level degree in public health, epidemiology, nursing, or a related field.

· Strong quantitative skills with comprehensive understanding of statistical concepts and methods

· Excellent communication skills (both oral and writing)

· Additionally, it is preferable the candidate have a record of peer-reviewed publications, experience analyzing interview data using NVivo or similar software programs, mixed methods research experience, demonstrated interest in LGBTQIA health, and strong writing skills.
