What are the responsibilities and job description for the Human Resources Specialist position at Columbus and Franklin County Metro Parks?
Performs professional-level human resources duties in the areas of recruitment and selection, benefits administration, workers' and unemployment compensation, training and development, employee recognition, and employee relations. Provides support to the Human Resources' team.
Creates Employee ID Cards.
Tracks and manages internal, local, state, and federal compliance based forms (e.g. Federal I9 Forms, Ohio Fraud Reporting and Training Forms, Hepatitis B, Injury Reports, etc.)
Develops and coordinates hiring processes with managers; provides technical advice with regard to interviewing and hiring; conducts interviews and assists with the selection process.
Coordinates and attends job fairs and human resources-related events.
Arranges, schedules, and conducts new hire orientations.
Assists with the development, design, management, and implementation of the Columbus City School Intern Initiative Program.
Writes interview guides.

Manages the online application and onboarding system (Neogov Insight and Onboard).
Answers employees' questions regarding benefits, FMLA, policies and procedures, and other human resources-related issues. Responds to routine questions from the public regarding position openings, applications, status in processes, background checks, etc.

Helps employees through workers' compensation process, monitors claims, and facilitates return-to-work accommodations.
Composes various types of correspondence, documents, and reports. Prepares materials and informational packets for interviews, orientations, training, etc.
Participates in the development of the department budget; maintains budget and purchase log; tracks expenses for the credit card statement and identifies and resolves problems.
Coordinates training for employees; works with presenters on training opportunities.
Manages of personnel files, medical files, related paperwork, records retention and destruction.
Coordinates and attends special personnel programs and events such as all-employee meetings, volunteer and employee recognition events, service awards, etc.
Keeps up-to-date on human resource related local, state, and federal laws.

Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Communication, Natural Resources Management, or other related field, plus some human resources experience, preferably in the public sector, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Excellent customer service, communications, interpersonal and writing skills. Ability to routinely exercise independent judgment and discretion. Proficient with computers and various software.
