Performs professional-level human resources duties in the areas of recruitment and selection, benefits administration, workers' and unemployment compensation, training and development, employee recognition, and employee relations. Provides support to the Human Resources' team.
Develops and coordinates hiring processes with managers; provides technical advice with regard to interviewing and hiring; conducts interviews and assists with the selection process.
 
Coordinates and attends job fairs and human resources-related events.

Arranges, schedules, and conducts new hire orientations.

Assists with the development, design, management, and implementation of the Columbus City School Intern Initiative Program. 

Writes interview guides.
 
Prepares correspondence, job postings, appointment announcements, and various documents utilizing Google Docs, Microsoft 365, and databases.
 
Manages the online application and onboarding system (Neogov Insight and Onboard).
 
Answers employees' questions regarding benefits, FMLA, policies and procedures, and other human resources-related issues. Responds to routine questions from the public regarding pos­ition openings, applica­tions, status in processes, background checks, etc. 

Tracks human resources statistics, such as FMLA usage, turnover, promotions, EEO, etc.

Creates Employee ID Cards.

Tracks and manages internal, local, state, and federal compliance based forms (e.g. Federal I9 Forms, Ohio Fraud Reporting and Training Forms, Hepatitis B, Injury Reports, etc.)
 
Processes conditional offer letters, offer letters, new hire paperwork, salary change forms, etc.; researches, calculates, and tracks pay changes.
 
Assists staff with employee relations issues; monitors the internal culture of the organization by listening to employees and addressing their issues and concerns.

Keep applicants informed during the interview and background check process. Assist with processing background checks.  Fingerprints volunteers and applicants.
 
Helps employees through workers' compensation process, monitors claims, and facilitates return-to-work accommodations.
 
Composes various types of correspondence, documents, and reports. Prepares materials and informational packets for interviews, orientations, training, etc.
 
Participates in the development of the department budget; maintains budget and purchase log; tracks expenses for the credit card statement and identifies and resolves problems.
 
Coordinates training for employees; works with presenters on training opportunities.
 
Manages of per­sonnel files, medical files, relat­ed paper­work, records retention and destruction.
 
Coordinates and attends spe­cial per­son­nel programs and events such as all-employee meetings, vol­un­teer and employee recognition events, service awards, etc.
 
Keeps up-to-date on human resource related local, state, and federal laws.

Performs special projects and related duties as required or assigned.
Education/Experience
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Communication, Natural Resources Management, or other related field, plus some human resources experience, preferably in the public sector, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Excellent customer service, communications, interpersonal and writing skills. Ability to routinely exercise independent judgment and discretion. Proficient with computers and various software.

Computer/Software Skills
Demonstrated experience using computers, programs, timekeeping systems, email, Google Docs, and Microsoft 365.

Mathematical Skills
Ability to deal with formulas, equations or graphs; ability to prepare meaningful, concise, and accurate reports; ability to calculate fractions, decimals, percentages; ability to recognize errors and make corrections.

Reasoning Ability
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions and develop appropriate recommendations to resolve identified problems; ability to proofread technical materials, recognize errors and make corrections; ability to gather, collate and classify information about data, people, and things. Ability to design and produce concise and accurate reports that provide management with meaningful data for decision-making. Ability to understand broad organizational objectives and provide sophisticated supporting data.  Ability to recognize unsafe working conditions and take appropriate action.

Licenses, Registrations
Possession of a valid Ohio driver license, or the ability to obtain one by the first date of employment.

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for prolonged periods of time, stand, walk/move, talk and hear, etc. The employee is required to use hands and fingers to type, use computers, file paperwork, etc. Duties also include carrying large items (e.g. orientation materials, award program materials, uniforms, and supplies).

Work Environment
While performing the regular duties of this job, the employee regularly works in an office environment. Employee is occasionally required to travel to parks and events throughout central Ohio.

Ability to work with minimal supervision; work well with a variety of people and willingness to learn various facets of human resources. Excellent verbal and written communication and organizational skills.  Ability to maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, vendors, the general public, and public officials. Knowledge of customer service principles and human resources concepts.

In addition, must have exceptional customer service skills, a strength in verbal communication, active listening skills, professionalism, a customer focused mindset, organizational ability, open and consistent communication, ability to manage and handle high pressure situations, and a high tolerance for ambiguity.
The typical work week is Monday through Friday with occasional evenings or weekends. This position works in-person at Metro Parks' Headquarters.

Salary : $45,760 - $74,880
