Under direction, is responsible for the planning and production of text documents, large scale presentations, computer mapping, audio-visual presentations, graphic designs, web graphics, and related compositions; performs related duties as required.
Duties
Examples of Work (Any one position may not include all the duties listed nor do the examples cover all the duties that may be performed):
Possession of an Associate’s degree in visual communications, computer graphics or web design, photography, or a closely related field. Substitution(s): Experience in computer graphics or web design, computer mapping, or professional photography may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis. Completion of an accredited program in computer graphics, web design, or photography from a graphic arts institute may be substituted for the required education.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
General knowledge of design philosophy and theory relative to communications design; general knowledge of graphic design, typography, illustration, color theory, and two and three dimensional design relationships; general knowledge of computer technology and equipment including input and output devices; general knowledge of design related software applications and techniques; general knowledge of offset and other printing processes; general knowledge of photographic techniques, processing and equipment; general knowledge of types and operations of cameras and other photographic equipment; general knowledge of web graphics; general knowledge of digital video production and post-production techniques; general knowledge of audio-visual programming processing, techniques, and equipment; ability to cooperate with fellow workers and with the public; ability to prepare reports and correspondence; ability to maintain records.

Duties

- Designs layouts using computers, scanners, printers, visual/graphic design software products, and related technology;
- Prepares digital art and converts files into acceptable formats for service bureau finishing, publishing, printing, and other output services;
- Generates computerized maps via GIS, illustration, or related software;
- Designs, prepares, and arranges layouts of sketches, diagrams, photographs, and other reproductions used to illustrate printed media;
- Produces large-scale maps and other associated displays suitable for public presentations;
- Prepares digital art work in the production of overlays dealing with photos, illustrations, and type;
- Plans and produces multi-media audio-visual presentations using computers, story boards, recorders, and other related visual and sound equipment;
- Operates various cameras and related photographic equipment, such as lenses, filters, and strobe lights to photograph subjects;
- Records, imports, edits, and prepares content in video format for use in public service announcements, promotional materials, distance learning modules, and other training materials;
- Develops specifications and takes part in the bidding process for the procurement of printed documents, computer art related software, art supplies, and photographic and audio‑visual equipment and supplies;
- Prepares reports and correspondence; maintains records as required
