This is not a remote position.
Under general supervision, is responsible for providing support and resolution of matters related to the security of the District’s information systems and/or networks; performs related duties as required.
Examples of Work (Any one position may not include all the duties listed nor do the examples cover all the duties that may be performed):
- Supports the documentation, validation, assessment, and authorization processes to assure that existing and new information technology systems meet the District’s cybersecurity and risk requirements;
- Documents and reports appropriate responses to, and treatment of, information system vulnerabilities;
- Assists in identifying, investigating, analyzing, and responding to cybersecurity related incidents across all District information system environments;
- Provides support in the process of analyzing and synthesizing of cybersecurity data, information, and advisories;
- Assists in the development and maintenance of cybersecurity plans documenting security controls for computer systems;
- Assists with responses to information technology audit requests and the maintenance of audit information;
- Participates in the assessment of management, operational, and technical security controls employed within or inherited by information technology systems; assists with the determination of the overall effectiveness of such controls;
- Deploys safeguard measures to protect District information system environments from malicious activity through the use of enterprise security tools such as endpoint protection, Security Information & Event Management (SIEM), and Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS);
- Collects and assists with monitoring data from a variety of cyber defense tools (e.g. IDS alerts, firewalls, network traffic logs) to identify irregular activity and potential threats;
- Reviews digital evidence and investigates computer security incidents to derive useful information in support of system and/or network vulnerability mitigation.
Minimum Required Qualifications:
One (1) year of experience performing cybersecurity and/or information technology security work. Substitution(s): Successful completion of college coursework in cybersecurity, information technology security, or information technology may be substituted for the experience requirement (thirty (30) semester/forty-five (45) quarter credit hours equals one (1) year). A certificate of completion from a recognized vocational program in a computer related technology program may be substituted for the experience requirement.
By completion of the probationary period, incumbents must possess a valid Associate of (ISC) 2, or higher, certification.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
General knowledge of information technology security concepts, cybersecurity principles and procedures, and network security; general knowledge of identifying cyber threats, vulnerabilities, and operational impacts of cybersecurity lapses; general knowledge of industry standard security policies and procedures; general knowledge of computer networking concepts, protocols, and network security methodologies; some knowledge of hacker techniques, some knowledge of research and problem-solving techniques; ability to use a computer and related software; ability to follow oral and written instructions and procedures; ability to maintain records relating to the operation of computers; ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others.
