TITLE: School Improvement Specialist

POSITION
SUMMARY:
The School
Improvement Specialist will serve as a coach for district Priority and/or Focus Schools identified under the Ohio Department of
Education guidelines. This position will serve the following elementary schools:
Innis, Maize and Salem.
ESSENTIAL
DUTIES:
The School
Improvement Specialist will provide coaching and curricular support to three SQIG grant
funded schools for target area
Excellent Educators and Instructional Practices. The duties will include but are not limited to the following areas:
•
Assess specific building needs and support schools in the development of a school
improvement action
plan using data
•
Support teachers, instructional coaches and TBTs in the implementation of the Ohio Improvement
Process (OIP)
•
Coach building level instructional coaches to effectively support
classroom teachers and TBTs in the implementation
of literacy
and/or math strategies
•
Provide
job-embedded instructional support
to individual teachers,
Teacher Based Teams (TBTs), and Building Leadership
Teams (BLTs)
•
Deliver
professional development to teachers in a variety of areas
including but not limited to:
instructional strategies, assessment development, Ohio State Assessments, and deconstructing the standards
•
Collaborate with teachers, teams, administrators, external partners, district departments, and community partners
•
Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively
•
Demonstrate knowledge of the necessary work of priority and focus
schools
•
Work with schools to use data to inform and guide instructional practices in order to increase student achievement
•
Engage with staff to design job-embedded professional development aligned to building school improvement
plans
•
Provide support to schools in integrating district initiatives into the school improvement process
•
Support the implementation of innovative practices and programs in schools
•
Other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
•
Must possess valid Ohio Teaching licensure appropriate for level (ES, MS, HS)
•
Minimum of five years classroom teaching experience in an urban setting
•
Knowledge of effective literacy and math practices for elementary and
middle school
students
•
Knowledge of NWEA/MAP, iReady, Achieve 3000
•
Thorough understanding of the Ohio Improvement Process
•
Ability to work with diverse cultural backgrounds
•
Effective written and verbal communication skills
•
Available for extended hours including mornings, evenings, Saturdays and summer
•
Flexible, resourceful, enthusiastic, and high energy level
