POSITION
SUMMARY:
The Social
Emotional Support Specialist will serve as a coach for district Priority and/or Focus Schools identified under the Ohio Department of
Education guidelines. This position will serve the following high schools: Briggs
and Walnut Ridge
ESSENTIAL
DUTIES:
The Social
Emotional Support Specialist will provide coaching and social emotional learning (SEL) support on
how to embed SEL into daily instruction to two SQIG grant funded schools
for target area “Positive Climate and Culture”. The duties will include but are not limited to the following areas:

Provide
training and coaching to individual teachers, PBIS building
teams Teacher Based Teams (TBTs), and Building Leadership
Teams (BLTs) relative to Restorative Practices,
Trauma Informed Care or other Social Emotional Learning frameworks as well as
Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS) implementation

Support
teachers, PEAK IA’s, instructional coaches and TBTs in the
implementation of Social Emotional Learning
frameworks and PBIS relative to the
Ohio Improvement Process (OIP)
·
Coach building instructional coaches to effectively
support classroom teachers
in the implementation of Social
Emotional Learning frameworks and PBIS, including PEAK IA’s at the elementary
level.
·
Deliver
professional development to teachers in a variety of areas
including but not limited to:
Restorative Practices, Trauma Informed Care, other Social Emotional Learning
frameworks, and PBIS
·
Collaborate
with teachers, teams, administrators, external partners, district departments, and community partners
·
Support
staff utilization of data to drive decision making processes related to PBIS
implementation and improved school wide climate and culture.
·
Demonstrate
the ability to communicate effectively
·
Demonstrate
knowledge of the necessary work of priority and focus
schools
·
Assess
specific building needs and support
schools in the development
of an action plan using data
·
Work
with schools to
use data to inform and
guide behavioral practices in order to increase student achievement
·
Engage
with staff to design job-embedded professional development aligned to school improvement plans
·
Provide support to
schools in integrating
district initiatives into the school
improvement process
·
Support
the implementation of innovative practices
and programs in schools
·
Other
duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
·
Must possess valid
Ohio Teaching licensure appropriate for level (ES, MS, HS) or school counselor
or school social worker license through ODE
·
Minimum
of five years classroom teaching experience in an urban setting or school counseling / school social worker experience
·
Knowledge of effective behavioral
practices for elementary, middle, and high school students
·
Thorough
understanding of the Social
Emotional Learning frameworks, PBIS and the Ohio Improvement Process
·
Ability
to work with diverse cultural backgrounds
·
Effective
written and verbal communication skills
·
Available
for extended hours including mornings, evenings, Saturdays and summer
·
Flexible, resourceful, enthusiastic, and high energy level
SKILLS REQUIRED:

Outstanding
oral and written communications, organizational and prioritization skills
· Good interpersonal relations skills
· Considerable knowledge of the current
literature, trends, and developments regarding school improvement and
innovative practices
