What are the responsibilities and job description for the Substitute Education Support Personnel - Special Education position at Columbus School District?
Columbus school district is seeking 2 long-term substitute Early Childhood - fifth grade Education Support Personnel staff who are interested in working in a collaborative environment with a fun-loving, energetic, and welcoming staff. This position is to fill 2 family/medical leaves and will begin mid March, 2025 and run until the end of the school year (June 6, 2025).

QUALIFICATIONS and SKILLS:
- Have at least two years of post-secondary education that is equivalent to at least 48 semester hours from an accredited higher education institution, or
- Have obtained an associate (or higher) degree, or
- Have met a rigorous standard of quality and be able to demonstrate, through a formal State or local academic assessment, knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics (or, as appropriate, reading readiness, writing readiness, and mathematics readiness)
- Ability to type at least 45 words per minute on a word processor. Knowledge of google apps preferred
- Certification by American Red Cross for first aid is desirable
- Ability to work without close supervision
- Ability to work cooperatively with students, staff, parents and community
- Ability to respond positively to diverse needs of students
- Must complete the department of motor vehicle driver background check.
- Ability to transport students in a school provided vehicle or personal vehicle under the direction of the supervisor.
- Ability and willingness to develop knowledge and skill related to specific areas of disability and behavior management.
- Ability to lift a minimum of fifty pounds
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform responsible human support and assisting classroom teachers or other professionals to achieve instructional objectives; assisting students with disabilities with achieving established goals and with personal care and mobility. To increase a child’s independent functioning by providing physical, emotional, behavioral and/or academic support.
- Assist the student(s) in such physical tasks as putting on and taking off outerwear, moving from room to room, using the bathroom, eating lunch and so on.
- Aid the student(s) in academic tasks, both individually and in small groups
- Assist students with emotional and behavioral goals as stated in the education plan
- Provide supervision to students during specified hours
- Assis in medical procedures under the supervision of school nurse
- Attend training/workshops on related issues as assigned, i.e. sensory defensiveness, autism, etc.
- Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about all students, student records, and school business
- The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or illegal substance in the workplace in compliance with District Policy Regulation 3122 throughout his/her employment in the District
- Staff member shall serve as a positive role model
- Such other duties as may be assigned
CERTIFICATION:
Certified by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction as a Special Education Program Aide.
Preference will be given to applicants with a CNA license
Columbus School District is located approximately 25 miles northeast of Madison.
