Job Summary

Student(s) will assist the Chair and Lab Manager in the Department of Biology with various duties. Work assignments may include maintenance of the greenhouse (watering plants, cleaning greenhouse, etc.), maintenance of the stock room, maintenance of the museum, assisting in lab prep, driving van for field lab courses, or other duties as assigned and needed.

Responsibilities

  • Contributes to preparing of laboratory courses and experiments.
  • Maintains established experiments, lab classroom set-ups, and/or lab projects/services to include but are not limited to solution making.
  • Maintenance of the greenhouse and watering plants; must be available on weekends for this job.
  • Maintenance of the stock room and/or museum collections for organismic courses.
  • Driving a 15-passenger van for field lab courses.
  • Other duties as assigned and needed.

Required Qualifications

Must have completed at least 1 year of science classes. Science majors preferred. Knowledge of basic laboratory techniques and safety procedures is a plus. Knowledge of the use of standard laboratory equipment used to teach introductory biology lab courses is required.

Proposed Salary

The salary is commensurate with education and experience. This position can work up to 19 hours.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

For all jobs, student must be responsible and timely. Student must also be willing to learn and capable of following instructions accurately. For driving, student must have a valid driver's license, successfully complete CSU training, be capable of driving within a 45-minute radius of campus and available for a 5-hour block of time. Student driver must also ensure the vehicle is clean after use. For greenhouse work, students must be available during holidays and weekends.

  • A credit check completed for Positions of Trust and or approved departmental Purchase Card usage;
  • Pre-employment drug testing for positions with high-risk responsibilities.
  • Motor vehicle reports are required for positions that are required to drive a Columbus State University fleet vehicle or other vehicle designated as a fleet vehicle. A successful drug screening will be required as a condition of employment a randomly thereafter.
