Job Summary

The Center for Global Engagement at Columbus State University has an opening for a Study Abroad Graduate Assistant. The individual in this position will work primarily with Study Abroad but will also assist with front office activities and International Student Services functions.

Responsibilities

The Graduate Assistant position in the Center for Global Engagement encompasses, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities: providing information to students interested in study abroad, the study abroad application process, communicating with students during the various stages of the study abroad process, and providing front office administrative support. The Graduate Assistant will assist with orientation sessions for study abroad students and Global Ambassadors, monitor the online application software, and assist with other duties as assigned. The Graduate Assistant will work with a variety of people and departments across the CSU campus.

Required Qualifications

  • Full time graduate student at Columbus State University (9 hours);
  • Meet all Graduate Assistant position requirements;
  • Have cross-cultural communication skills and an interest in working with domestic and international students;
  • Have leadership experience and/or the desire to develop this skill;
  • Be responsible, reliable, flexible, and able to adapt to new initiatives and priorities;
  • Possess public speaking skills;
  • Exude enthusiasm for cross cultural learning;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher) and Outlook;
  • Ability to work independently and with a team;
  • Exceptional customer service skills;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Hold a valid Georgia driver¿s license;
  • Must attend training to drive CSU vehicles;
  • Be willing and able to drive a 10 passenger van.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using Canva, and Microsoft Publisher;
  • Candidate should have some knowledge/experience of other cultures either from personal experience, social interaction or from study abroad experiences.

Proposed Salary

Salary is commensurate with experience and education. A time commitment of 19 hours/week to the Center for Global Engagement, with set office hours every week. (The scheduling of hours is flexible based on class and work schedules.) Additional hours will be scheduled depending on weekly staffing needs (e.g., for information meetings, orientation sessions, other presentations).

Requirements

All selected candidates are required to submit and successfully pass a background investigation to include reference checks and verification of academic credentials (if applicable). Other additional requirements may be required based upon specific position duties:

  • A credit check completed for Positions of Trust and or approved departmental Purchase Card usage;
  • Pre-employment drug testing for positions with high-risk responsibilities;
  • Motor vehicle reports are required for positions that are required to drive a Columbus State University fleet vehicle or other vehicle designated as a fleet vehicle.
