THE POSITION:
The Lead Budtender/Inventory Clerk position is a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of the Tribe’s retail dispensary, while delivering exceptional customer service and expert guidance to our customers. This position requires an individual with a strong understanding of cannabis products, consumption methods, and safe use. The Lead Budtender/Inventory Clerk has a dual role; for the inventory aspect of the position, the incumbent will also take on key inventory clerk duties, such as overseeing stock levels, receiving deliveries, and maintaining organized inventory. The Lead Budtender/Inventory Clerk will take a lead role over a team of Budtenders (e.g., training, taking customer complaints), ensure store cleanliness and organization, and guarantee compliance with all regulations and internal policies. A proactive, approachable, and knowledgeable attitude is essential for creating a welcoming atmosphere for both customers and employees.
The incumbent must be flexible to work nights and weekends. The Dispensary Store hours are 10:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m., seven days a week.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
Duties may include but not limited to the following:
- Lead, mentor, and train Budtenders to ensure excellent customer service, product knowledge, and adherence to store policies.
- Assist customers in a professional, friendly manner, providing tailored recommendations based on their needs and preferences. Educate customers on safe cannabis use, consumption methods, and product benefits.
- Oversee inventory management, including verifying deliveries, maintaining stock levels, and ensuring product organization, while complying with the Tribe’s Cannabis Ordinance and adhering to the Cannabis Commissioners’ adopted regulations, policies and protocols.
- Receive store deliveries and assist in unloading inventory from delivery trucks.
- Maintain logs of all products and supplies, checking inventory against computerized records and reporting discrepancies.
- Restock merchandise on the sales floor as necessary and ensure the stockroom is clean and organized.
- Use inventory software to track orders, returns, and supplies.
- Assist in the packaging and labeling of cannabis products, including pre-rolls, and enter all products into the POS system for resale.
- Submit orders for replenishment of inventory and move stock to make space for new products.
- Pull defective or expired merchandise for return and assist with returns by packing items and creating shipping labels.
- Process customer transactions, including cash handling, applying discounts, and verifying IDs to ensure compliance with regulations. Utilize the POS system to manage customer profiles and ensure accurate data entry.
- Maintain an organized, clean, and welcoming sales floor. Assist with store security, safety standards, and ensure adherence to all policies and procedures.
- Assist customers on the sales floor in locating items and retrieving products from the stockroom.
- Lead by example, demonstrating excellent communication, leadership, and customer service skills. Handle customer inquiries, resolve complaints or issues promptly, and provide constructive feedback to team members.
- Write inventory reports detailing any overstock or missing items, and present reports at store meetings. Ensure that all delivery and inventory receipts are filed accurately.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by management, including store closing activities such as cleaning and organizing the space.
- Performs other duties commensurate with the functions and level of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily. A combination of education and experience described below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/ability required.
• Experience: At least one (1) year of experience in cannabis retail required. Experience in retail and/or inventory management preferred.
• Other Requirements:
o Must be 21 years of age at the time of appointment.
o Must obtain required Tribal Cannabis license, once hired.
o Pass pre-employment background check.
o Must be flexible to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
SUPERVISORIAL DUTIES: None but must be able to train and lead a team in the absence of the Cannabis Manager.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
• Knowledge of Federal, Tribal, and state cannabis laws and regulations.
• Knowledge of point-of-sale (POS) systems, basic computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite), and inventory software.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills to inform customers on cannabis products and uses, sell cannabis products, and to deal with irate/difficult customers.
• Ability to multitask in a retail environment that includes drive-thru, inventory management, and working scheduled events.
• Strong organizational skills and attention details.
• Strong leadership, organizational skills, and passion for the cannabis industry.
• Strong work ethic with a positive attitude.
• Understands the importance of confidentiality and discretion, due to varying reasons for customers’ cannabis consumption reasons.
