Summary
This position requires knowledge of clerical and court procedures. This individual has daily contact with the public, governmental officials and agencies, and is responsible for providing clerical and administrative support to the District Judges and Court Coordinators.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Duties include the following :
- Assists with a variety of administrative duties for the District Courts, such as assisting with scheduling cases on the court's docket, including hearings, jury trials, and trials before the court; assisting with scheduling judges, attorneys, bailiff's and court reporter; notifying concerned parties; preparing and posting dockets.
- Assists with a variety of clerical tasks such as answering phone and directing calls to appropriate staff, greets outside persons and directs to appropriate staff, assists indigent defendants in the completion of forms requesting court appointed attorney, and maintains a card file of attorneys and rotates case assignments.
- Prepares orders for judge's signature, prepares and distributes routine correspondence, and maintains copy machine and courts library.
- Coordinate the Juvenile Dockets for three District Courts and two County Courts-at-Law.
- The Assistant Court Coordinator must perform the duties of the Court Coordinator in their absence.
- Monitors the activities of the Court Master and Associate Judge's dockets.
- Assists the Comal County Magistrate's Office with clerical and administrative duties.
- Performs research for judges and administrator via the internet and library.
- Provides assistance with computer applications to judges and staff.
- Other duties that may be assigned by the District Court Administrator.
- Attendance is an essential function of the job.

Mandatory Qualifications
EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED). The individual should possess a thorough working knowledge of clerical procedures and practices with one (1) to two (2) years in clerical operations, including computer applications and accurate typing skills of 50 wpm. Civil / Criminal law knowledge preferred, but not required. Individual to obtain certification by the Texas Center for the Judiciary through their Professional Development Program for Court Coordinators. The Assistant Court Coordinator also must acquire 15 hours of continuing education credits per year.

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
