Primary Purpose

Responsible for the scheduling and application of pesticides and herbicides according to the districts pest management policy.

Education / Certification

  • High school diploma or GED; or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License with driving record that meets the requirements of the district.
  • Certified in General Standards, Pest Control, Termite Control, Lawn and Ornamental Pest Control and Weed Control.
  • Current and Valid Commercial Pest Control Applicator's License issued by the Texas Structural Pest Control Board.

Special Knowledge / Skills

  • Knowledge of methods and materials for pest control and TDA regulations.
  • Possesses the ability to read and comprehend pesticide labels in order to properly formulate and use pesticides safely and efficiently.
  • Must be familiar with the basic principles of Mathematics, Chemistry, Toxicology and Entomology.
  • Possesses the ability to apply pest control techniques in a school environment with emphasis on recognition of pests and pest damage, pesticide safety, environmental protection, application equipment and techniques, emergency procedures and pesticide cleanup, procedures for the immediate reporting of spills and misapplication, nonchemical pest control techniques, including biological, mechanical and prevention techniques.
  • Possesses the ability to organize, supervise and record the pest control activities for the district.

Experience / Other Requirements

  • Minimum of three years as a certified applicator.
  • Personal cell phone is required to handle district related business, including after hours, or when away from the office on district business.

Major Responsibilities And Duties

  • Responsible for the scheduling and application of pesticides in a school environment according to federal and state regulatory laws.
  • Handles requests and inquiries relating to pest problems from staff, students, parents, and the public.
  • Posts appropriate notices in district facilities prior to planned pesticide treatment, according to federal and state requirements.
  • Maintains inventory of chemicals, supplies, and equipment. Orders additional supplies as needed. Labels and secures pesticides.
  • Participates in required pest management training courses.
  • Regularly required to drive District vehicle in the performance of assigned tasks.
  • Maintains confidentiality of information.
  • Reports to work on time every day.
  • Follows District safety guidelines.
  • Responsible for properly maintaining district records, adhering to all policies set forth by the district for records maintenance and learning the records retention schedule for department records.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.

None.

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally life and/or move more than 100 pounds.
  • Frequent climbing or balancing.
  • Talking, hearing, near vision, far vision, peripheral vision, color discrimination, depth perception, corrected vision to 20/20.
  • Occasionally required to sit, talk or hear, and taste or smell.
  • Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, high, precarious places, extreme cold, and extreme heat. May be required to work in a confined space.
  • Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • Frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and outside weather conditions.
  • Personal protective equipment is required to be worn when performing tasks that might subject employee to injury.
  • Moderate skills are required in concentration, communication (verbal and written), interpretation, and differentiating, reading, coordinating, compiling, computing, instructing and emotional control.
  • Required to work evenings/weekends to schedule pest control after regular school hours. The employee may be required to work extended or overtime hours as required by the mission.
  • The employee is required to frequently drive District vehicles in the performance of assigned tasks. The individual must pass a pre-employment physical examination to include alcohol and drug testing. The employee may be required to submit to drug and alcohol screening at any time throughout employment without prior notification.
