Job Summary
This role is critical in ensuring Comar maintains its competitive edge in extrusion blow molding manufacturing while delivering high-quality products to its customers. The Technical Expert will lead the efficient operation of the extrusion system and support auxiliaries, serving as the primary expert in extrusion blow molding technology.
Key Responsibilities- Responsible for efficient operation of the extrusion system and support auxiliaries.
- Act as the primary expert in extrusion blow molding technology.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues in the blow molding process as they arise, in order to maximize machine uptime and machine output.
- Proactively identify opportunities and implement solutions to improve machine reliability, process robustness, product quality and people capabilities.
- Analyze and optimize cycle times and process parameters to maximize efficiency and reduce waste.
- Lead EBM training efforts to ensure that operators are capable and knowledgeable.
- Collaborate with production teams to EBM issues and resolve in a timely manner.
- Build internal expertise in blow molding operations through on-going technical training of operators.
- Provide hands-on support for mold changes, machine setup, and process validations.
- Monitor daily shift outputs for EBM operational efficiency, and adjust operator training accordingly.
- Responsible for developing robust maintenance plans, spare parts management, reliability improvement projects, and training.
- Collaborate with Maintenance to ensure all PM is done in timely fashion, including the entire extrusion system and support auxiliaries.
- Be the primary point of contact to the OEM for all EBM equipment and process related issues.
- Work closely with Quality Assurance to analyze defects, implement corrective actions, and conduct root cause analyses.
- Work with Quality Assurance to minimize product degradation through various methods.
- Responsible for training and mentoring EBM process operators.
- Periodic assessment and inspection of EBM equipment within the automated manufacturing cell to ensure optimal performance.
- Provide input to Pricing and Quoting groups on capital investment projects, including equipment selection, procurement, and installation, as needed.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Plastics Engineering, or a related field.
- 8 years of hands-on experience in extrusion blow molding processes, equipment, and tooling.
- In-depth, hands-on knowledge of Bekum extrusion blow molding machinery.
- Ability to work with programmable PLC's, HMI's, and proficiency in diagnosing and repairing servo drive issues.
- In-depth understanding of sensors, actuators, and robotics in EBM machinery.
- Understanding electrical schematics and the ability to troubleshoot electrical issues.
- Diagnose and resolve issues related to servo motor and drive performance, including motion control, positioning errors, and synchronization challenges.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.
- Solid understanding of plastics material properties and their impact on molding processes.
- Proficient in process analysis, cycle optimization, and defect resolution.
- Experience with mold design, validation, and process qualification.
- Familiarity with process improvement methodologies.
- Hands-on experience with all electric Bekum blow molding systems.
- Certifications in Lean Six Sigma.
- Experience with ERP systems and other manufacturing technologies.
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements for medical, food, or consumer products.
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment, including standing for extended periods and occasionally lifting heavy equipment or tools.
- Willingness to travel to support multiple manufacturing sites, as required.
- Drive improvement in production efficiency (OEE) and reduction in waste.
