POSITION SUMMARY :
The Structures Engineer is responsible for the design, documentation, and installation tasks on Transport Category Aircraft for Interior Completion STC projects. The engineer will be responsible for creating design data in support of structural modifications to aircraft primary and secondary structure for the installation of interior and exterior components. The engineer interacts with internal and external partners, including planning, procurement, manufacturing and suppliers in performing these functions.
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :
1. Create moderate to complex designs of aircraft primary and secondary structures to meet customer criteria, quality standards, structural analysis, FAA requirements, budget, and project schedules using Computer Aided Drafting / Design tools.
2. Design repairs for aircraft structure that are beyond the scope of repair documentation.
3. Perform initial stress analysis of structural designs in order to optimize strength, weight, and manufacturing cost.
4. Review service bulletins and airworthiness directives for applicability to fleet, and generate engineering documentation for the accomplishment of structural modifications.
5. Provide design guidance and feedback to less experienced engineering personnel.
6. Act as technical lead for group on specific projects.
7. Review and approve designs generated by other structures engineers.
8. Interact with internal and external customers and vendors.
9. Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, LICENSES, ETC :
1. Bachelor's Degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
2. Two (2) years of experience working on structural modifications and provisions, preferably for large VIP transport category aircraft.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES :
1. Computer Aided Drafting / Design (SolidWorks preferred.)
2. Aviation background and VIP aircraft experience preferred.
3. Knowledge of mechanical design and documentation standards.
4. Experience with mechanical assemblies and manufacturing techniques.
5. Knowledge of vector mechanics and free-body diagrams.
6. Budget and project management experience.
7. Ability to work independently and cross-functionally.
8. Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
9. Strong time-management and organizational skills.
