Job Description:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Automation Technician III to join our team in the oil and gas industry, covering Pecos, Jal, Carlsbad, and surrounding areas. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the proper installation, calibration, maintenance, and repair of instrumentation and control systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot instrumentation and control systems, including pressure, flow, temperature, and level measurement devices.
- Install, configure, and maintain RTU's for efficient communication with SCADA systems.
- Perform loop checks to verify the proper functioning of control loops and ensure accurate signal transmission from field instruments to control systems.
- Conduct function checks to ensure all instrumentation, RTUs, and control systems operate according to design specifications.
- Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on equipment to ensure optimal performance.
- Diagnose and repair malfunctioning instruments, RTUs, and control systems to minimize downtime.
- Interpret and work from technical diagrams and schematics.
- Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to optimize instrumentation systems and resolve issues.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards, company policies, and industry regulations.
- Assist in the planning and execution of shutdowns, turnarounds, and other maintenance activities.
- Participate in safety meetings, hazard identification, and risk assessments.
- Travel to various job sites within Pecos, Jal, Carlsbad and surrounding areas as required.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or technical certification in instrumentation, electronics, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as an Automation Technician, preferably in the oil and gas industry.
- Strong knowledge of instrumentation and control systems used in oil and gas production, including PLCs, DCS, SCADA systems, and RTUs.
- Proficiency in performing loop checks and function checks on various types of instrumentation.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical diagrams, schematics, and manuals.
- Familiarity with industry safety standards and regulations (e.g., OSHA, API, NEC, NFPA).
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Willingness to work in various conditions, including remote locations, and to participate in on-call rotations as needed.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to job sites within the specified regions.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Rosemount, Vega, ABB, E&H, and other commonly used instrumentation in the oil and gas industry.
- Knowledge of calibration software and tools.
- Experience with hazardous area classification and intrinsic safety standards.
- Certification from ISA (International Society of Automation) or a similar organization.
