What are the responsibilities and job description for the Electrician position at Commercial Plastics Company?
Key Accountabilities (results expected to achieve):
- Ensures plant electrical maintenance needs are completed to code, within a timely manner to meet unplanned downtime goals.
Key Responsibilities (tasks that you do to achieve the accountabilities):
- Ensures company standards for safety, quality and customer satisfaction are met or exceeded.
- Troubleshoots, diagnoses, and repairs electronic devices or components and electrical systems.
- Troubleshoots DC drives, controllers, transformers, and 3 phase power distribution.
- Tests and diagnoses malfunctioning devices such as lighting fixtures or motors.
- Replaces broken wires or cable in faulty equipment.
- Replaces faulty electrical components such as relays, switches, motors, circuit boards, and positions sensing devices.
- Diagnoses and repairs faulty mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components of machine and equipment.
- Uses programmable controllers and other computerized hardware during troubleshooting process.
- Performs electrical preventative maintenance.
- Verifies work performed by Maintenance Technicians by inspecting serviced equipment.
- Performs all other assignments as required.
Qualities for Success:
- Previous apprenticeship training or 1-year relevant work experience
- High school diploma or GED, technical school completion of electrician program preferred.
- Registered Unlicensed Electrician
- Basic computer skills
- Intermediate math skills, including the ability to measure volts, amps, and resistance.
- Understanding of how auxiliary equipment is used in the plastics industry.
- Basic understanding of hydraulics and pneumatics
- Knowledge of working with high voltage
- Proficient at working with PLCs.
- This position may require that occasional overtime hours be worked according to business need.
- Ensures quality of all electrical work performed.

- Demonstrates knowledge and proficiency when utilizing hand tools.
- Has knowledge of AC/DC theory
- Dedicated to safe practices, especially when working with high voltage.
- Forklift certification or the ability to receive a certificate with training.
Physical & Mental Demands:
- Able to lift 55 lbs. to shoulder height on an on-going basis (with/without assistance)
- Push, pull, bend, twist, and stoop on an on-going basis
- Grip and hold parts for quality inspection.
- Must be able to handle extremely heavy items with assistance/equipment.
- Use miscellaneous hand tools.
- Stand for extended periods of time.
- Able to work overhead and on ladders, scissors lift, boom life, etc.

Work Environment:
This position is often required to conduct business on the manufacturing floor. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may work near moving mechanical parts and could be exposed to chemical or electrical shock risk. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, extreme heat, and noise levels that are typically moderate.
