Essential duties and responsibilities can include, but are not limited to, tending one or more injection molding press/assembly lines, special purpose machines, or industrial robots to mold workpieces to specifications on production basis by performing the following duties.
Machine Responsibilities for Mold Technician:
- Install mold by using hoist or forklift to lift and then manually manipulates and secures mold in press
- Set up and shut down molds according to set-up sheet and diagram, for example, properly attaches/removes water lines and safety equipment
- Start machine, engage feed, and observe operation
- Move machine controls and guide to adjust machine to meet product specifications
- Replace worn machine accessories such as controls or switches
- Clean press, molds and parts
Production Responsibilities for Mold Technician:
- Inspect and measure machine product to verify conformance to specifications
- Record production and raw material usage accurately in inventory software
- Prepare and position support equipment and raw material
- Tend support equipment other than molding press and mold
General Responsibilities for Mold Technician:
- Assist in providing support and training to operators
- Maintain a safe and clean working environment following safety procedures and policies
Supervisory Responsibilities for Mold Technician:
- Assist in directing the molding operators
- Carry out responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws
- Train employees, relieve operators for their breaks, address product complaints and resolve problems
Qualifications for Mold Technician:
- Strong mechanical aptitude and mechanical experience is required
- Knowledge of the property of plastics and the molding process to identify problems and solutions is preferred
- Ability to qualify and maintain for forklift certification if needed
- Associate degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred
- Plastics processing experience is preferred
- Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 55 pounds
Required Language Skills:
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
- Ability to write simple correspondence
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization
Required Mathematical Skills:
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs
Required Reasoning Ability:
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions
- Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations
