Executive Director (Chief Executive Officer)

Reports To: Executive Committee, Board of Directors
Category: Full-Time / Permanent / Exempt

Position Summary

The Executive Director (ED) serves as the chief executive officer of the Commercial Association of REALTORS® New Mexico (CARNM), reporting directly to the Board of Directors. The ED is responsible for overseeing the operations, programs, and administration of CARNM and its affiliated Commercial Information Exchange (CIE). This role involves providing strategic leadership, ensuring compliance with national and state REALTOR® standards, managing staff and contractors, and supporting CARNM’s mission to provide leadership, education, technology, and support to its members.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Strategic Planning

  • Act as an ex-officio, non-voting member of the Board of Directors and standing committees.
  • Attend and contribute to Board, Executive Committee, and CIE Committee meetings.
  • Develop, recommend, and help implement organizational policies, goals, and strategic plans.
  • Support CARNM committees in planning and recommending programs aligned with the association’s objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with all National and State REALTOR® Association mandates (NAR, NMAR).
  • Maintain effective relationships with partner organizations, vendors, and public/private stakeholders.
  • Attend relevant local, state, and national industry conferences and training events.

General Administration & Operations

  • Administer day-to-day operations in accordance with Bylaws, policies, and CIE Rules & Regulations.
  • Manage office functions, internal processes, and member services.
  • Oversee staff and contractors, including hiring, training, evaluation, and performance management.
  • Maintain proper records, files, and databases (membership, legal, financial, historical).
  • Provide administrative support to associated professional chapters (CCIM, SIOR, IREM) as needed, including regular attendance at chapter meetings, hosted events and educational offerings.
  • Ensure that decisions and recommendations from committees are submitted to the Board for review.

Technology: Commercial Information Exchange (CIE) & Website Oversight

  • Serve as liaison between the CIE Committee, vendor, and membership.
  • Ensure access and system functionality for members and their assistants.
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of the CARNM website and ensure content accuracy.
  • Monitor compliance with CIE Rules and Regulations and support CIE-related issue resolution.

Professional Standards & Ethics

  • Coordinate with the Certified Professional Standards Administrator (contracted via NMAR).
  • Organize annual training for Grievance and Professional Standards Committees and Board members.
  • Maintain knowledge of the Code of Ethics and arbitration procedures.
  • Manage escrow accounts for ethics and arbitration filings.

Financial Management

  • Collaborate with the Treasurer, Budget Committee, and Board to ensure financial health.
  • Prepare and oversee the annual budget and ensure adherence to accounting policies.
  • Work with a bookkeeper and CPA for accurate financial reporting, audits, and tax filings.
  • Manage dues billing, collections, deposits, accounts payable/receivable, and reconciliation.
  • Administer payroll and employee benefits in accordance with approved budgets.

Legal & Compliance

  • Execute contracts as authorized by the Board.
  • Ensure legal and regulatory compliance across all CARNM operations.
  • Liaise with legal counsel as needed.

Communication & Public Relations

  • Ensure clear, timely communication with members regarding programs, policies, and updates.
  • Support public relations efforts to promote the association and its initiatives.
  • Oversee newsletters, emails, website updates, and event announcements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent work experience considered.
  • 5 years of professional experience with supervisory or executive management responsibilities.
  • REALTOR® Certified Executive (RCE) Certification Preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated integrity, discretion, and ethical standards.
  • Familiarity with real estate industry standards and REALTOR® Association operations preferred.
  • Financial acumen with experience in budgeting, reporting, and QuickBooks.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), Adobe, and database systems.
  • Ability to lift and set up event materials; willingness to travel as needed.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $90,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year

Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday

Ability to Relocate:

  • Albuquerque, NM 87109: Relocate before starting work (Required)

Willingness to travel:

  • 25% (Preferred)
