Position Summary:
The Medical Assistant at Common Ground Health Clinic plays a crucial role in supporting patient care by performing various clinical and administrative duties. This position requires a range of skills and responsibilities, including patient data collection, medication administration, and clerical tasks. Medical Assistants contribute to a smooth and efficient healthcare delivery process, providing patient-centered care.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Duties:
- Gather relevant data for registration and billing processes.
- Obtain patient information and accurately input it into the computer system.
- Utilize ICD-10 code book and record codes according to diagnosis.
- Administer or handle medications as directed by healthcare providers.
- Obtain and record vital signs, time in/date, weight, medication profile, immunization record, allergies, chief complaint, and appropriate signatures/initials.
- Prepare patients for provider examinations, ensuring a comfortable and organized process.
Clerical and Administrative Duties:
- Answer telephone calls, identify self and clinic/practice, and assist callers.
- Receive, document, and deliver telephone messages to the appropriate personnel.
- Schedule appointments accurately and manage patient information.
- Obtain insurance authorizations for referrals and confirm appointments.
- Assist in maintaining an orderly and accurate medical record filing system.
- Disassemble and file patient medical records promptly after patient discharge.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and functional work station.
Job Limitations:
Medical Assistants DO NOT:
- Assess patient conditions beyond their assigned skills.
- Work outside their scope of practice.
Qualifications:
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Medical Assistant Certification preferred.
- Experience in medical office procedures preferred.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
- Proven ability to maintain professional conduct and patient confidentiality.
- Basic computer skills.
- Must be bilingual
Physical Requirements:
The employee must be able to lift a maximum of 20 pounds and frequently lift and/or carry objects
weighing up to 10 pounds.
