Our practice is made up of 29 board-certified cardiologists and three cardiothoracic surgeons. We merged with CHI Memorial Health Care System in 2011 which is part of CommonSpirit Health. *Responsibilities*

Job Summary

The Nurse Practitioner is responsible for utilizing training skills to provide direct patient care under the supervision of a physician.

Essential Responsibilities

• Manage patients in collaboration with the cardiothoracic surgeons, providing specialty care of patients with acute and chronic problems.
• Triage or address consults for immediate care of elective care through the cardiothoracic surgery clinic.
• Participate in surgical clinic and inpatient rounding. Perform inpatient rounds on weekends on a rotational basis.
• Collect data pertinent to the patients' status and performs bedside credentialed procedures.
• Maintains a professional demeanor and promotes a positive work environment.
• Perform and/or assist the supervising physician with discharge services including discharge planning, discharge summaries, and coordinating post-discharge follow-up care.
• Work collaboratively with clinical teams in managing cardiac surgery patients in the ICU and other inpatient units.
• Obtain medical histories when necessary.
• Perform physical exams (within established protocols).
• Diagnose, treat and monitor chronic diseases (within protocol guidelines).
• Order diagnostic tests.
• Prescribe or recommend medications for treatment (within protocol guidelines)
• Promote positive lifestyle habits to all patients through education and counseling.
• Assure charts are signed off by the physician within 7 days.
• Maintain patient's privacy and confidentiality.
• Make follow up calls to check patients progress.
  
  

*Qualifications*

Education

• Graduate from an accredited Advanced Practice Nursing Program.
  
  

License/Certification

• Current/valid APN license from the state licensing board.
• BLS Certification
• ACLS Certification
  
  

Qualifications

• 1 year previous experience as an NP in an acute care setting or equivalent RN experience.

$48.26 - $56.84 /hour
