What are the responsibilities and job description for the Surgical Tech Trainee position at CommonSpirit Health?
Our brand new surgery suites at CHI Health St. Francis have it all, including:
- Seven operating rooms with the most advanced technology in town.
- State-of-the-art imaging allows for patient’s scans to be on large screens above the operating table, so the surgeon never has to leave the surgical field

- Two brand new endoscopy rooms and a sterile processing department

Responsibilities
- Prepares the operating room for surgical procedures by ensuring the equipment is functioning properly and safely
- Prepares the operating room and the sterile field for surgical procedures by preparing sterile supplies, instruments, and equipment using sterile technique
- Demonstrates knowledge of human anatomy and pathophysiology and how it relates to the patient and surgical procedure
- Anticipates usual and unexpected events during the surgical procedure and responds in an efficient manner
- Handles and processes surgical specimens according to established policy/procedure
- Serves as a preceptor in training and orientation of fellow staff members and students
Qualifications
Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program or completion of on the job training as a scrub tech with minimum of 5 years' experience or Completion of an accredited medical personnel program such as but not limited to CNA, MA, LPN, EMT I / II, or SPD tech who are willing to do on the job training with a structured competency regimen.
Basic Life Support (BLS) required
