Your Team

The Business Banking Technology Enablement team manages the Architecture, Delivery and Engineering capabilities in Business Banking Technology. In this role, you will report to the Centre of Excellence Lead, CommSec Solution Architecture.

CommSec Solution Architecture is part of the broader IB&M and Business Bank solution architecture function. CommSec is Australia’s leading retail broker, and is part of the Business Banking division within Commonwealth Bank. CommSec provides retail and wholesale clients' access to broking and investment products via our market leading digital, mobile, assisted and dynamic trading channels and applications. CommSec IT is responsible for the world leading application of technology and operations across every aspect of CommSec, from innovative product platforms for our customers to essential tools within our business.  

Your role

Due to an internal promotion, we are looking for a Senior Data Architect to join the Business Banking Technology Enablement team. The key focus of this role is to work on defining and implementing a data journey for our premier customer offering – CommSec. You will work very closely with business stakeholders, providing them with best-in-class solutions for their business needs, as well as cooperation with delivery and engineering teams and Product Owners on the solutions delivery. You would be responsible for driving strategic direction while designing technical solutions to business problems, leveraging various other architecture groups across CommBank Technology.  

This role is high impact, offering the opportunity to liaise with senior leaders and be involved in developing, implementing and supporting Technology within Business Banking at CBA. You will build strong working relationships with key business and enterprise technology stakeholders to deliver value through data.

As a Senior Data Architect, you will be heavily engineering focused, provide leadership in data technology and laying the foundations for effective AWS based data platform. Enable building effective solutions that helps us manage problems in a systematic way, aligned to the data strategy of our organisation.

Hands on experience and knowledge on AWS best practices and standards for data management, governance, quality, and security will be crucial for success in this role.

Responsibilities:

• Translate business requirements into solution concepts and designing solutions, and system and software architecture according to business strategies and aligned to Reference Architectures, as applicable.

• Deliver and maintain artefacts relating to architecture as part of our delivery framework (Solutions on a Page, High Level Solution Design etc).

• Assists in providing technical governance throughout the Solution Delivery Lifecycle.

• Collaborate strongly with peers, stakeholders, and management teams providing a consistent and shared understanding of problem and opportunity spaces.

• Educate business stakeholders and other delivery partners on pros & cons of each solution option articulating its benefits and impacts both to business strategy as well as technology strategy.

• Participate in vendor selection and engagement process to influence from architectural perspective to drive business investment with the appropriate service management models.

• Adopt and promote agile & cross-functional ways of working, in alignment with the business operating models.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

We use a broad range of tools, languages, and frameworks. We don’t expect you to know them all but experience or exposure with some of these (or equivalents) will set you up for success in this team. You will have:

• A sound level understanding of good design and architecture principles and frameworks with an industry recognised certification.

• Experience in working across several technical domains with the ability to ‘deep dive’ where required and ensure correct solutions are implemented.

• Strong experience with a successful record of accomplishment in managing and delivering large-scale data designs.

• Data modelling domain expertise in current and emerging technologies (i.e. Oracle, Hadoop, Teradata, Redshift, Glue, Snowflake, etc.). 

• Experience in Data Lake, Data Mesh and Data warehousing architectures and ETL tooling (e.g. Hadoop, Teradata, TCF, Glue).

• Experience with Spark framework.

• Experience with AI/ML tools and concepts and/or public cloud native services (Azure/AWS).

• Solid knowledge of data security, compliance standards and best practices.

• Experience working in an Agile delivery framework, with passion for technology and a willingness to learn new things, and a bias for practicality over theory.

• Experience in operating effectively as part of cross-functional teams.
