What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mortgage Underwriter I position at Commonwealth CU?

The Mortgage Underwriter must maintain current information regarding all secondary market underwriting guidelines, set forth by private and government investors, such as, Freddie Mac and FHLB; as well as those credit standards established by Commonwealth CU and other institutional investors. The Underwriter must possess strong leadership and analytical skills; detail-oriented; excellent documentation skills, including strong oral and written communication.
The duties of a Mortgage Underwriter include, but are not limited to:
- Reviewing the quality of loans submitted from originators, as well as, reviewing work of processors
- Staying abreast of various state laws and limitations, and ensuring that processors and originators are in compliance
- Maintaining accuracy and efficiency with respect to file maintenance, and deadlines in submission of loans for approval, closing and audit
- Providing exceptional service to members and staff; communicating in a knowledgeable, effective and timely manner
- Actively promoting all credit union promotional activities and products through daily interaction with members
This position requires the individual to provide detailed information on Home Equity and/or Mortgage Loans; therefore, National Mortgage Licensing System (NMLS) registration will be required. If the individual is not currently registered, they will need to pass the applicable background screening to be registered. This screening may be different than what was required for the individual to become employed by the Credit Union.
