The position of Electronic Technician III will perform the installation and maintenance of Kentucky State Police electronic equipment including, radios, radars, mobile data routers, antennas, emergency equipment, and other public safety equipment. The role of Electronic Technician III will work closely with other technicians, in a lead role. This position will also evaluate and develop new methods, practices, and new technical and electronic equipment as they relate to Public Safety. All of these duties are intended to equip the public safety personnel of the Kentucky State Police with the tools they need to perform their duties safely and effectively.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: High school graduate.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Three years of technical experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electronic equipment.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Technical training in electronics or a related field will substitute for the experience on a year-for-year basis.
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Additional technical experience will substitute for the education on a year-for-year basis.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): NONE

Key Responsibilities
- Installs, maintains and repairs electronic equipment and devices.
- Tests electronic equipment to evaluate performance and recommends corrective procedures.
- Coordinates work done in the supply electronic shop and in the field.
- Monitors stock level of electronic parts and makes orders as necessary.
- Tests and evaluates new electronic equipment to determine feasibility of Agency use.
- Inspects surplus vehicles to determine which electronic parts may be repaired or reused.
- Strips parts from surplus vehicles; makes any necessary repairs and installs into new vehicles.
- Contacts vendors regarding warranty work on electronic equipment and ensures the work is completed.
