THE POSITION
This role functions as an Assistant to the PennDOT Driver License Examiner and is pivotal in enhancing highway safety. The position involves aiding in the management of customer interactions at the Driver License Center, where a key responsibility includes scrutinizing identity documents. This examination is essential in the fight against identity theft and fraud, ensuring that the integrity of the licensing process is upheld and that only legitimate individuals receive their driver licenses.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK
The Driver’s License Examiner Assistant operates within a Driver License Center that offers driver licensing and related services to the community. This role entails professionally welcoming customers, engaging directly with them to verify identification, assisting in the completion of application forms, and inputting data into online driver license application systems. The assistant also provides necessary forms and informational brochures tailored to the specific needs of customers.
In addition, the assistant administers standardized knowledge assessments to gauge applicants' comprehension of motor vehicle regulations, driving laws, and relevant traffic control devices. A vision screening is conducted for all applicants using a telebinocular instrument to assess visual acuity.
The assistant is responsible for entering applicants' test results and customer applications into online software systems via a PC terminal. They independently address inquiries and concerns from the public, demonstrating a thorough understanding of the services offered and the requirements for each, including the criteria for obtaining REAL ID or non-REAL ID products.
Furthermore, the assistant provides guidance on various services related to driver’s license or identification card renewals, duplicates, out-of-state transfers, and the process for acquiring a motorcycle license or maintaining a commercial driver's license (CDL). They are also knowledgeable about the different restrictions and endorsements associated with commercial licenses.
Upon request, the assistant generates Restoration Requirements Letters for customers who visit in person. They ensure that the appropriate fee waiver codes are utilized and accurately documented whenever a fee waiver is necessary for processing customer transactions, adhering to all Fee Waiver Guidelines.
The assistant is tasked with correctly processing and complying with all REAL ID regulations. They issue and scan the Non-Native Born US Citizen/Non-US Citizen Courtesy Form (DL-160) as needed. Additionally, they are expected to understand and comply with all aspects of Title VI regulations.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment, 80 hours bi-weekly
- Work hours are 8:15 AM to 4:45 PM, Tuesday - Saturday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- This position may require overtime and travel.

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- One year of experience obtaining, evaluating, and providing information to the public.
