THE POSITION

The Department of Corrections at SCI Somerset is on the lookout for a driven and highly organized candidate to become a part of their team in the role of Fiscal Management Specialist 2. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This role encompasses intricate professional analytical or supervisory responsibilities related to the preparation, evaluation, and examination of financial information for an organization. The individual in this position engages in sophisticated or supervisory tasks that involve the oversight, analysis, and management of revenue, financial obligations, and expenditures in relation to budgets, grants, contracts, or other financial metrics. This is essential for providing management with informed guidance on the optimal utilization of resources and ensuring the continuous availability of agency funds. Responsibilities include the preparation and assessment of various fiscal forecasts and reports that estimate revenue and expenditures associated with personnel, operational costs, fixed assets, and other financial obligations. Additionally, the role entails reviewing, approving, or recommending modifications to fund usage requests, interpreting financial data, and clarifying fiscal regulations and procedures to management, or supervising these activities conducted by subordinate staff. The position also involves processing budget revisions and other financial transactions, addressing discrepancies, and ensuring adherence to policies through strategic recommendations and adjustments. Furthermore, the employee may be tasked with preparing and reviewing agency budget requests, legislative budget proposals, and rebudgets. The work is carried out independently, with oversight from an administrative supervisor who evaluates effectiveness and outcomes.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • One year as a Fiscal Management Specialist 1; or
  • One year of experience in professional fiscal administration, and a bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting, finance, economics, or a related field; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Other Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • You must pass a background review and meet Criminal Justice Services Information (CJIS) compliance requirements.
