DESCRIPTION OF WORK
In this position with the Pennsylvania Violent Death Reporting System, you will be responsible for collecting, analyzing, managing, and disseminating data related to violent deaths across the Commonwealth. You will develop relationships with key data providers, such as coroners, medical examiners, and law enforcement, to obtain investigative reports on suicides, homicides, accidental firearm deaths, and undetermined deaths. Your duties will include reviewing various sources of information, such as death certificates, coroner and medical examiner reports, autopsy results, toxicology reports, police records, and court affidavits, to extract critical data on violent deaths and injuries. While most of the data collection will be conducted electronically, some travel may be required. You will enter key information into the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), National Violent Death Reporting System, using a web-based system, entering data both manually and through mass imports via Access and Excel. This will involve managing and refining complex datasets, ensuring data quality, and making the necessary corrections before submitting them to the CDC. Collaboration with partners will be essential to continuously improve data quality and streamline the data-sharing process. Additionally, you will compile statistical data and prepare reports using Excel, Word, and PowerPoint to share surveillance findings for violence prevention initiatives. Your role will also involve providing statistics and technical assistance to data providers, researchers, violence prevention organizations, state and federal agencies, the media, and the public. Work will be assigned and reviewed by the Public Health Program Administrator, with progress evaluated through regular meetings and reports.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- This position requires both in-state and out-of-state travel, including air and ground transportation.
- Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) full-time, with a minimum of one day per month in the office. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.
- Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
- One year as a Public Health Program Associate 1 (commonwealth title); or
- A bachelor's degree and one year of professional experience in the development, analysis, or monitoring of programs, grants, or contracts in health, human services, social or behavioral services, health care services, or health insurance; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Other Requirements:
- This position also requires one year of experience abstracting coroner/medical examiner reports for a mortality surveillance system.
- PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
