County Social Services Aide 2 (Local Government) - Lackawanna County C&Y

As a Social Services Aide 2, you will be assisting clients and families with activities of daily living. This includes instruction on family budgeting, housekeeping standards, personal health and hygiene, and food preparation and storage. Providing transportation to medical, dental, and other needed services will be your responsibility in addition to providing childcare as needed during appointments and visitations. Effective communication skills will be key as you will work with agency caseworkers, supervisors and contracted service providers. This position assists with all other child welfare related, non-professional duties.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment.
• Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
• Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• One year as a County Social Services Aide 1; or 
• Graduation from high school, or its equivalency, and two years of experience in public contact work in a human services agency which included one year of experience in interviewing and obtaining information; or 
• An associate's degree in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences; or 
• Any equivalent combination of experience and training. 
• Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within three months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

Other Requirements:

• This particular position also requires you to possess a valid driver’s license which is not under suspension.

• Hiring preference for this vacancy may be given to candidates who live within Lackawanna County. If no eligible candidates who live within Lackawanna County apply for this position, candidates who reside in other counties may be considered.
• You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements: 

• You must pass a background investigation.
• A conditional offer of employment will require a drug screening.
• This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
  • Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
