EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
In order to become a State Game Warden Cadet (SGWC), you must successfully complete a 44-week training program at the Training School in Harrisburg which includes classroom instruction, field assignments, and comprehensive adherence to Pennsylvania Game Commission policy and procedure. Instruction includes wildlife management, natural history of wildlife, game laws and regulations, law enforcement principles and methods, land management, public relations, conduct wildlife surveys, and conduct educational classes and lectures. Field assignments give SGWCs opportunity to apply the principles covered in the classroom and to work under the supervision of experienced State Game Wardens who monitor the SGWCs’ progress toward completion of the entire program. Performance in all stages of training is conducted under close supervision, in accordance with Pennsylvania Game Commission policies and procedures, and is reviewed through written examinations, formal inspections, and individual evaluations.Upon successful completion of the training program, SGWCs are given assignment anywhere in the state and must maintain a home office to service the assigned district. Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time employment, 40 hours/week.Work hours will vary.Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.
