Virginia Western Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education operating under the Virginia Community College System, a statewide system of community colleges. The College operates under the policies established by the State Board for Community Colleges and the Virginia Western Community College Local Advisory Board.
Virginia Western is located on a 70-acre campus in southwest Roanoke, VA. The service region of the College includes Roanoke, Salem, Roanoke County, Craig County, Franklin County, and southern Botetourt County. The College was established in 1966 and has grown from an initial enrollment of 1,352 to its current annual enrollment of over 9,000 students in credit courses and more than 1,400 enrollments in fast-track workforce and continuing education courses.
The Student Records Specialist serves as a primary point of contact for the college Records Office, providing customer services to students, parents, staff, faculty, and the general public. The incumbent will also serve as the back-up to the primary Veterans' School Certifying Official. Duties include analyzing, auditing and maintaining student records. Processing various changes to student records in SIS and scanning documentation. The incumbent will also evaluate high school and college transcripts and assist with reporting, transcript requests, graduation, and other office functions.
Considerable knowledge of and demonstrated ability to interpret, apply, and explain complex administrative policies and procedures related to records maintenance. Excellent human relations skills with the ability to navigate difficult customer service situations. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, faculty, and the general public. Confidence, ease, and ability to multi-task in a heavy volume operation. Excellent data entry and computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheet, web-based programs and document imagining software. Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a high degree of accuracy when maintaining records and completing job tasks. Ability to perform detailed audits of student records.
Additional Considerations:Experience in a community college setting preferred. Experience with SIS preferred.
