Position Type : Full Time
Reporting to the Lending Manager, this position acts as a senior underwriter and perform duties in accordance with established lending policies and approval limits, procedures, and guidelines. This position will act as team lead to the junior loan officers and lending processor. The Senior Consumer Loan Officer will assist in achieving strategic and departmental goals and ensure that service to members is maintained at the highest standards. The Senior Consumer Loan Officer assists in the management of projects, upgrades and enhancements relating to systems used by the department. Under the direction of the Lending Manager, the position may assign and monitor work of the junior loan officers and lending processor.
Responsibilities
Loan Production :
- Examine, evaluate, and authorize approval of member consumer loan applications (personal, auto, credit card, home equity) in accordance with CommonWealth One’s Lending Policies and Fair Lending requirements.
- Assist in efforts to increase lending production and ancillary product sales and enhance fraud mitigation processes.
- Identifies and recommends ways to continuously streamline or improve the work process and / or the work environment.
Team Lead :
Monitor team members and assign work in the absence of the department manager.Perform other functions of the department in the absence of a team member.Resolves difficult or more complex problems or situations arising in the department. May be assigned to handle escalated member calls when necessary.Assists Lending Manager in developing and maintaining department policies and procedures which all CU and regulatory guidelines and requirements.Provides feedback to Lending Manager on all important matters and developments relating to members, the department or team members. Initiates appropriate action when required.Compliance :
Adhere to all local, state, and federal laws / regulatory requirements as related to functional areas including Truth in Lending, Reg. B, Reg. Z and Bank Secrecy Act.Adhere to and maintain knowledge of CU products and services, and policies and procedures.Ensures compliance with all applicable federal regulations, including the Security and OFAC, Bank Secrecy Act, Fair Lending, and the SAFE Act.Perform other duties as assigned.Performance Expectations
Tasks are complete in accordance with established policies and procedures.Records, reports and related documents are accurate, current and submitted on time.Files are accurate and up to date.Policy and procedure changes are documented.Ensures that work performed is within compliance and completed according to the CU policies and procedures, and with all applicable regulatory standards.Good communication and professional working relationships exist with all CU departments, members, and vendors.Supervisor is appropriately informed of lending activities.The CU’s professional reputation is maintained and conveyed.Demonstrate the CU’s Core Values & Cultural Beliefs.Education & Experience
Three years to five years of related work experience in consumer loan and home equity underwriting in a financial industry, preferably within a CU.Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.), or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience. Certificates are not required but would be considered.Must be federally registered with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System (NMLS) or be able to complete registration within 30 days of hire.Intermediate to advanced knowledge of local, state, and federal laws / regulatory requirements as related to functional areas including Truth in Lending, Reg. B, Reg. Z and Bank Secrecy Act.Skills & Abilities
Effective coaching ability to develop a high performing team.Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.Proficient with Microsoft Office software, banking and lending platforms, and standard office equipment.MeridianLink experience, preferred.Problem solving and decision-making capabilities.Knowledge of laws and regulations concerning consumer and home equity lending.Knowledge of CU policies and procedures, preferred.Other Pertinent Information
Regular and satisfactory attendance required.Must maintain an acceptable personal credit history and be bondable.Summary of Physical Demands :
While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to convey detailed or important instructions and ideas accurately, audibly and quickly; hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information; use hands to perform such tasks a computer typing, file maintenance, using telephones, ten key adding machines and related office equipment; regular and frequent movement requiring use of hands, writes, arms, fingers; visual acuity required to prepare, read, and inspect documents and interpret information on a PC screen. This is primarily sedentary office work with occasional physical activity requiring lifting of small boxes / files. Ability to sit for long periods of time.
