Position Summary Information
Position Purpose
Serves as the Daytime Circulation Coordinator to ensure that patrons are able to use the building and the library's resources productively, appropriately, and safely; provides direct public service at the Circulation Desk and performs advanced technical work in Access Services during the dayshift; also provides technical support and performs basic troubleshooting as a member of the CU Libraries' E-Resources Access & Technical Issues group.
HOURS OF WORK :
Work schedule may fluctuate during summer and winter months and intersession periods to accommodate the library's posted hours of operation. Incumbent may also be required to work "extended hours" during the last two weekends of each semester. Incumbent is considered an "Essential Employee" and, in the event of a University delay or closure, is expected to report for scheduled shift unless otherwise notified.
Description of Duties
ACCESS SERVICES (Circulation and ILL) :
Responsible for the overall operation of Access Services during the daytime, including, but not necessarily limited to, greeting patrons; providing directional assistance; explaining and enforcing policies and guidelines that enable patrons to use the building and its resources productively, appropriately, and safely; responding to patron concerns; problem-solving; making appropriate referrals; and circulating materials. ( NOTE : Responsibility for the overall operation of Access Services typicallytransfers to the Evening Circulation Supervisor around 1500, but this will depend on circumstances (e.g., appointments, illness, etc.). It is essential for the Daytime and Evening Circulation Supervisors to regularly communicate and cooperate to ensure smooth operations.)
Responsible for supervising student employees in Circulation, including onboarding, training, scheduling, and assigning work, during the dayshift.
Responsible for coordinating work with the Evening Circulation Supervisor.
Responsible for providing basic assistance to patrons in using collections and materials and basic assistance to patrons in using associated equipment such as microform reader / printers, photocopiers, scanners, and computers, while making appropriate referrals to library faculty, technology staff, and other library and university units.
Responsible for maintaining the Reserve Collection. This includes identifying and inputting materials into Alma, removing materials as necessary, and serving as the library's liaison to the faculty who requested materials to be placed on reserve.
Searches overdue material, clears patron records, and clears fines and blocks as necessary.
In cooperation with the Evening Circulation Supervisor and the Evening Circulation Assistant, makes and posts signs in the library to keep library patrons informed-for example, to indicate a change in library hours.
Assists with the creation of library displays.
Assists with planning and set-up of library events.
Assists the Interlibrary Loan (ILL) Coordinator, as needed, in operating an efficient interlibrary loan system for the CU Libraries by participating in the verification of bibliographic information through both computerized and print sources; helping to locate appropriate lenders; and transmitting requests for material to them in an effective and timely manner.
Assists with monitoring the chat service, answering basic chat questions, and referring patrons to the appropriate library faculty and staff when necessary.
Assists, as needed, with updating Andruss Library webpages-for example, to inform the public of upcoming changes in Andruss Library hours. For webpage updates that involve or directly affect other CU Libraries, this person will cooperate with other members of the CU Libraries Website group.
Responsible for resetting passwords unique to the library for Community Borrowers.
Responsible for the Union Equalization List-for example, when there is overtime to be offered and assigned, this person maintains the equalization spreadsheet.
Responsible for making sure that all supplies necessary to maintain daily operations in Circulation are stocked and available.
In times of staff shortage, incumbent's first priority is to staff the Circulation Desk.
E-RESOURCES ACCESS & TECHNICAL ISSUES :
Provides basic technical support and performs basic troubleshooting as a member of the E-Resources Access & Technical Issues Group. This work will be done in cooperation with other members of the Group, as instructed by the E-Resources Librarian(s) of the CU Libraries and / or the Directors of the CU Libraries.
OTHER :
Cooperates with colleagues across all Commonwealth University (CU) campuses to ensure smooth operation of CU Libraries.
Contacts Facilities and / or Campus Police in emergencies-for example, reporting a burst water line that presents an immediate danger to library collections, patrons, and / or staff.
Decision Making
Based on established policies and guidelines, the person in this position responds immediately to patron concerns. Should the patron concern remain unresolved, the person in this position refers the patron to the appropriate library staff, faculty, or Director. In matters of policy or procedural changes, decisions are made in consultation with the members of the CU Libraries Access Services Group, and, when needed, with the Assistant Directors and Director of the CU Libraries.
Fiscal Responsibility
Assists with accepting payments of fines and fees at the Circulation Desk.
Assists with completing deposits, maintaining check log, and maintaining cash receipt log.
Supervisory Responsibility
Coordinates and supervises student work at the Circulation Desk during the daytime.
Assigns daytime staffing at the Circulation Desk via a shared calendar.
