What are the responsibilities and job description for the Engineering Test Technician position at CommScope?
R&D Engineering Technician assist Sr engineering team in typical day to day activities associated with new product development to TL9000. Engineering technicians work closely Sr development engineering staff in development of new products by: Fabricating prototype samples and analog models, operating and maintaining “laboratory equivalent” manufacturing processing (gel filling) equipment that mimics final production process, providing direct labor to evaluate installation and safe handling practices, documenting findings in an analytical way that supports engineering decisions. Technicians requires: A strong level of mechanical aptitude, knowledge of how products are used in the outside plant and the ability to quickly learn and implement new skills. The position requires a broad set of skills and talents associated with typical R&D support work.
Duties & Responsibilities
The position will report directly to Sr engineering staff for daily assignments and a functional manager for longer term personal growth continuity. Selected candidate will be required to participate in weekly meetings to review: issues, projects, workload, needed resources, guidance, etc.
Primary Job Focus: Technician level support intended to help facilitate Outside Plant Research and Development Engineering’s complete tasks associated with the new product R&D process more efficiently and quickly than if the Engineer diverted their time away from more sr level engineering work. · Job Accountabilities Grade 40 technicians take direction and then work independently without supervision, periodically reporting progress or delivering final prototypes or readout. They must reliably complete all assigned tasks accurately and on time. Tasks may be individually assigned or may be part of a project team that requires collaboration and group effort to complete to allow project to move forward. · Role in the Sales Process · Technicians often create / build samples needed to convey design ideas to product management or sales. · Work with cross functional team to development new or improved products. · Generate and maintain documentation relevant to the development process. · Assist engineers validate concepts and designs by building prototypes and product samples. · Assist in preproduction of product required for field trials, sales and marketing needs.
