Job Title: Part-Time Telecom Technician (Contract)

Position Overview:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically skilled Telecom Technician to serve on a part-time, hourly contract basis supporting Jefferson Parish’s telecommunications infrastructure. This role involves hands-on work with two-way radios, telephones (IP and analog), low-voltage cabling, and VoIP systems. The ideal candidate will be organized, reliable, and capable of performing basic to intermediate telecom and data closet support in coordination with Parish IT and Telecommunications teams.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain an accurate inventory database for portable and mobile two-way radios, including accessories, serial/model numbers, FLASH codes, radio ID numbers, and deployment locations.
Manage the readiness, storage, and cleanliness of the Parish’s spare two-way radio cache, ensuring all equipment is properly maintained and operational.
Maintain and condition radio batteries and charging equipment.
Record and track new and spare IP/analog phones and accessories, including serial/model numbers and deployment records.
Assist IT and Telecom teams with low-voltage cabling tasks (installation, labeling, troubleshooting) including coaxial, copper, and fiber optic cabling.
Support the Parish’s transition from analog lines to cellular conversion devices—install, configure, and inventory conversion hardware.
Help maintain and organize telecommunications and network closets across Parish facilities.
Assist with basic VoIP and traditional phone troubleshooting via work tickets.
Log all work activity, assignments, and issues in the IT ticketing system in a timely and accurate manner.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required; technical certifications (e.g., CompTIA, BICSI, or vendor-specific) are a plus.
1–3 years of relevant experience in telecommunications, cabling, or radio equipment maintenance.
Familiarity with two-way radios and associated programming/inventory processes is preferred.
Basic understanding of low-voltage wiring (including coaxial, copper, and fiber).
Entry-level knowledge of VoIP systems and analog-to-digital transition hardware.
Ability to read and follow technical documentation and equipment manuals.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Comfortable working lifting moderate equipment and occasionally traveling between Parish sites.
Work Details:
Part-time: Flexible hours, workload dependent on contract representatives, estimating 20/wk
Contract-based: Hourly compensation; no benefits provided. $26/hr
Location: All work is conducted onsite at Jefferson Parish government facilities.
